Dare I post it? Should I tempt the fates?
Guys, this is kind of mind-boggling, and of course it could all turn on a dime, but Ethan is doing sooooo well!! He's sleeping through the night, eating soft foods, taking his meds without much argument, and drinking with a little (okay maybe a lot, LOL!) bullying.
Thanks to the advice we got here, we haven't missed a pain dose by even five minutes. He's getting his Tylenol with codeine every four hours around the clock. I have the hardest time waking him at 1am and 5am for his doses, but someone said not to assume a sleeping child is a pain-free child, and I think that was GREAT advice!
Every 15 minutes or so, I bug him and make him take sips of his juice. It helps that I tell him how many he has to take before he starts (usually 10) and then count them as we go so he knows how many he has left.
He briefly spiked a fever of almost 103 yesterday, but it went away pretty quickly. Today he is kind of acting like himself again, ramming around and wanting to be tickled. I am still in shock.
Part of the reason I'm tempting fate is to share a GOOD tonsillectomy story. I've heard plenty of the other variety, and I certainly experienced the dark side with my oldest son, hence my dread about doing this with Ethan. Ethan is not one of those kids with crazy high pain tolerance...he cries right away if he gets hurt, so I can't attribute it to that. I think every kid is just different. And we have been sooooo fortunate. Thank you for the prayers and kind thoughts, I'm sure they are helping!!!! And if somebody out there is thinking about this for their child, just know that maybe you'll have a GOOD experience!
