Film about RI boy with Down Syndrome wins Emmy
PROVIDENCE, RI. - - During Saturday's gala by the New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, local filmmaker Jessica Jennings was presented with an Emmy Award for her film about a young boy with Down Syndrome who is fully included in his school, home and community in Providence.
The documentary Boy in the World aired on Rhode Island Public Television last year, and was nominated for four Emmy Awards in April.
Boy in the World follows the day-to-day life of Ronen Kadmon, a 4-year-old who is a full participant in his traditional classroom at Brown/Fox Point Early Childhood Education Center and in his community at large. Through interviews and scenes from his life, the film shows how inclusion prepares Ronen to live a full life alongside his typically developing peers.
The film has screened at festivals and conferences nationally and will have its East Coast premiere at the Rhode Island International Festival in August.
