Last Saturday, my husband and I took Joy to the local Farmer's Market. We encountered a family that included a 29-year-old woman, Rose, who has Down syndrome. Joy and Rose said hello and chatted a little, no big deal.
So today, out of the blue Joy says, "Rose and I are the same, and we're different." Wow. Such a mature statement. I began to panic a little, thinking this may be the beginning of the struggle over why she's not the same as her friends, why things are harder for her, etc.
I prodded a little more, asking Joy how she and Rose are different. She replied, "We both wear glasses!"
Yep. I was punked. But it's OK. I'm not ready for that talk yet anyway.

hey Jenifer... did you see Joy's pic on Camp's website??? I had Ariel give me a guided tour last night of all the campers she's been with but I guessed which one was Joy because of her dance dress!! Figured that was her, you DO have about the cutest camper even tho the compeition is stiff!! (There are some just posted pics on the site OMG.. the train ride pics are SO amazing. You have to look very closely but Ariel is in one of those pics.. with her curly "hairs" as Joy herself told Ariel!!! ;D ;D www.campcourageous.org

Thanks for the heads up about the photos, Debi! Those are some awesome pictures. Plus, a mystery has been solved. One of Joy's outfits came home with a giant purple stain on the shorts and shirt that won't come out. Now I know what it was ... www.flickr.com/photos/campcourageous/3620794318/
