Hey everyone I know it has been forever but I am back and have lots of questions and issues. I will spare you where I have been all these years. Lots of crazy things going on. Lauren is now 11. She is in full blown puberty. She hasn't started her period yet but when I went to her developmental pedi and her endo. they both suggest to stop her periods when they start. Their reasoning is she will not be able to keep herself clean and could cause major issues. She is potty trained but has a lot of trouble wiping herself. I am a little concerned about this. I was just wondering if any of you were approached about this.
I hope you are all doing well.
Renee

My daughter has been getting her period for almost a year now. I've thought about this subject of stopping her period but she had several strokes when she was 5 so she can not go on the pill. Did they give you ideas as to how they wanted to stop her period? I believe there are some other options but i haven't looked into them yet. Since the strokes Kathleen doesn't have functional use of her left hand and arm this makes all the bathroom issues a little more difficult for her. I'de be very interested in what ideas others anyone has on this. Sorry I couldn't actually help but I did want to chime in. Mary G.

Mary They suggested giving her medication that she would only take a few times a year. They said it was so advanced now. They have injections and such they can give. I just worry about the effects of the hormones on her.

Livs a terrible wiper too but as he has lost weight it has made it easier for her to wipe as those beefy thighs don't smush together and leave no room for her. anyhow practice makes perfect. And perfection has never been our goal just to not be stinky.... lotsa practice....Livs great with her period a bit grossed out but hers are light ones so far sooo thats good. I have heard so many negative things about stopping periods the shots etc I don't know what to think anymore so figure I will let her manage them with my help and her lmao BARBIE BEDS(aka maxipads). So far so good... I think practicing prior to getting it would be a help u know? Good luck!!!!

Ok, way behind here: Angela also cannot have the pill because of strokes, but she CAN have the meridia IUD. In the majority of women it stops their periods, or they are next to nothing. Our problem is that Angela getting her period means she is OUT of the pool for swimming, which means her entire team suffers the consequences, not just her. Other girls her age (14) can use a tampon but Angela cannot.
So, that's what we're going to try. I've just been putting it off since last spring! LOL

HI....been a long time since I've been here to Uno and this is pretty much the reason I came back !! Erin is also 11 and doesn't have period yet,,,,but also feel it will be any day ! School did implemeent a "pad program"...just to get her used to using a pad, having it, changing it....she did fine with it & it didn't bother her...but that was a fresh, clean pad !! I was also wondering about stopping period.....haven't been to doctor to discuss yet...but.....feel like I want to know all my options. Would love to hear more from others who have already dealt with this. Erin also has dual dx of autism....so.....she is even more delayed in communication, cognitive, etc.....I feel like this is going to be something she just won't be able to grasp !

Laura is 19 now. When she first started having periods, they were very light, and she could handle keeping herself clean, changing, etc. One very big help when she started was our school nurse, she volunteered to have Laura use the restroom in the healthroom, and the nurse worked with her. Sometimes someone other than mom can have a big impact.
Anyway, things were great for the next couple of years. Then, out of the blue, her periods changed. They became heavier, with lots of cramps. Just like me at the same age. One night, Mike woke me up and said that Laura was in the bathroom crying. The poor girl was on the floor, doubled up, crying. She had taken care of the pad, etc., but the cramping was bad. After a dose of Motrin, a hot water bottle, and some cuddling, she went on to sleep. I called my Gyn and talked to her about it, and then took Laura to our family doc, and the consensus was to put her on the birth control pills that allow 4 periods a year. It has worked wonders for her. She has a period, but the severity is much less. Very rarely has cramping. At first, she did have some break through bleeding, but that has stopped. Her last period was very light.
I know the pill is not the answer for everyone, and health history has to be a major component of that decision. However, it works well for Laura.

That is wonderful that Ricki can handle it. I am sorry to hear about Laura Sharon. There is no way Lauren will be able to mange it. I am still managing her bowel movements. She has a terrible time cleaning herself and mentally is just not there. I wish she was but she just isn't. Not all of our kids are the same. I wish I didn't have to wipe her still at the age of 12 but I do. She just can't get her arms back there far enough and her weight is an issue. She keeps gaining it too. No matter what we do. I am not sure what we will do yet. Whatever it will be it will have to be the option with the least amount of weight gain. Thanks for all of your input. It is always so helpful.

Emma is 10 and not started hers yet either. She is still not even potty trained. You are right, all our kiddos are different. Her doctor suggested something to stop her periods as well. I am all for trying this, Emma in know way will be able to care for herself thru this.

Where do you get some pills, guys? And which ones are the best? I have found some on Canadapharmacy.com, but I would like to get tips on them from you here. Thank you in advance, guys!
