samantha has add . we have gotten her on a form of ritalin- only 10 mg i think. it has helped her so much . i forgot to give it to her this morning . i could tell she did need it later on in the late afternoon, but we are going to wait until the morning so her school routine will not be off.
is there any one here child takes ritalin also. i am amazed on how well sam is doing with it.
she is so calm now . i just hope it will last. she seemed to bounce off the walls before we did this.
i am going to get a few books to read to see how i can better myself to manage her mood swings and other topics. sue

My son with Ds isn't on Ritalin, but his older brother is. It has made a HUGE difference for him, both at home and at school. I can always tell when he hasn't taken it, sometimes even over the telephone (such as when he is visiting his grandparents). I've told him that as he understands how it feels to be in control and less distracted, he will be able to judge when he needs the medicine and when he can handle the day himself, and he is gradually becoming more able to do this. I do have to tell him to "get a grip" periodically, though

When Collin was first diagnosed with ADHD he was started on Ritalin 10mg and it worked amazingly. It worked so well that by the 2nd week we had put him on the ER form of Ritalin. However while that worked good it still did not last the entire school day for him.
We then went to Daytrana Patch. It worked GREAT but he had a reaction to the patch itself and it started peeling off his skin on his bottom.
Collin is currently taking 30mg of Vyvance a day. This also works GREAT. It controls his impulses and helps him focus while not getting rid of his personality.
