As May 3 Emily's 31st bday approaches seems a good time for a brief update.
For newbies...Em is youngest of 4...all devoted sibs. She was born in Denver in a military hospital. She had a PDA and VSD and Hirschprungs at birth. Heart resolved on its own at about a year and she had her successful Hirschprungs surgery at 19 months.
She now lives 500 miles away from us in a companion/foster care situation. She lives with a family in a lovely home and neighborhood and 2 other women about her age with similar disabilities. PERFECT arrangement and her sister Katie lives nearby. Emily picked this herself and is very very happy.
Em is also enrolled in the ARC of the ARTs and is an artist with a following in the Austin area.
She has had an exciting life with inclusion, college, travel, jobs, and all manner of other things. If you are new I would be happy to share more with you.
Her DS has taken the whole family down many new paths and it has been a journey that has really had very few bumps in the road.
Uno Mas has been a real sourch of inspiration for us and I hope it continues here for many years. Thanks Michelle for starting and maintaining this.

I have met Emily and it is such a pleasure knowing her and her family! I also own one of her paintings now (yes, had to throw that in and brag!). But really, the first time we met Emily she was very quiet and soft spoken, but she is smart and and willing to tell you what she thinks! She really is my role model for Kaelyn-successful, able to speak her mind, and gorgeous! It is because of Jackie that I found Uno Mas-that fateful day at Sprint when I was wearing my "My Child has more Chromosomes Than Your Child" t-shirt and this really nice lady came up and asked if I had a child with DS...the rest is history!!
