The resource teacher at the school where I work told me today she would be glad when Friday was over with. I naturally assumed it was because our spring break is next week. No, she has 16 IEP meetings scheduled for Thursday and Friday. SIXTEEN IEP meetings over 2 school days. SIXTEEN!!
Can you believe that? It amazes me that she will be able to get them all done, parents to agree to all goals, all signed off on. And how much parent input will be present at these meetings??
Laura's IEP was 35 minutes this year. But we had already hashed out everything over the course of the last month. So it really was a formality. Somehow I don't think that is the case with all of these IEP meetings. Will be interesting to see.

So much for "individualized" in those IEP meetings! There can't be enough hours in the day to get that many done......done well, anyway!

Oh yes, they will throw these plans at the parents and move on to the next one. So sad.

I dont think we ever had an IEP (we call them ARD meetings in Texas) that lasted less than 2 hours. Since we started this in the dark ages before anyone had learned to say NO...it was very individualized. I had a lot of training in this early on and always went into the meetings with my trusty 3 column lists. My DREAM list, my MAYBE list, and my NO COMPROMISE list. Amazing back then how many things on my DREAM list we got.

Stevie's took over an hour. Granted, I took coffee and cookies, so we did linger, but still over an hour. The special ed director thought we'd need more than one meeting too, but we got done. The resource teacher shouldn't need to be in the whole meeting & they could work her in when she could get there, but what about the special ed director? Doesn't she/he have to be there for the whole thing? Do they have more than one? Ours is doing double-duty right now serving as principle of one of the elementary schools as well as being the special ed director - I can't imagine how she gets it all in
