We are about 99% sure that Emily will be accepted at the TN School for the Blind. It's funny how things change. When she first started to lose her vision, I refused to even think of the word "blind". I sure wasn't ready to consider a school for the blind at that point. Then, she came home from camp, saying she wanted to go to school there and I was so torn!!!
Now, we have submitted pages and pages of paperwork for her to apply to attend the school full time, and are waiting for the approval. Her dad and I have decided that it will be the best possible option for her for the next 2 years. She will start school on August 15th, if she is accepted. I will go this Tuesday to totally revamp her IEP, and I'm excited about some of the things they can offer her! ! !
She went ahead and started school here, and we have been so pleased with her schedule. But, I know it has to feel odd to her to have returned to the same high school she just graduated from! ! ! She is still working in the preschool program 3 days a week, and loves the children. She is back in the dance class she loved so much during her Freshman/Sophomore/Junior year, and goes to our local university campus 2 days a week to the "independence program". They started working one day a week at a church office, and she likes that.
But still.............Emily is so excited about the whole idea of going to TSB, and she is so firm about telling us she wants to go there. I am just a tad bit "sad" that she is so eager to go to school and live all week away from home. Hopefully, we'll know for sure that she was accepted by the middle of next week.
That being said...........If her vision was to improve to the point where she was no longer "legally blind", she would not qualify for this school. I'm still praying for that!!!
