My son Noah got glasses about a year ago and unfortunately only wears them a few hours a day, like when we are playing together, dinner time, etc. Basically as long as one of us is beside him or in the same room he's fine with them. But once he's left alone for a second off they come. I tried a headband thing around the back of his head, but he can still get them off. Any suggestions? It's odd...he likes wearing them and even sometimes points to mine and signs on letting me know he wants his on. He usually gets excited after he gets them on I guess because he realizes he can see. But then like I said, the second someone looks away from him or leaves him alone, off they come. I thought maybe a velcro strap around the head would help but I have not been able to find one anywhere...anyone know where you can get one. I've check several optometrist offices, Ebay, etc. Thanks in advance! Melinda

I wish I had some suggestions but we are going through the same thing with Patrick. He just lost his second pair in just a couple of months. He will be fine wearing them and then sometimes he will take them off and throw them. It is so frustrating!

Adam started wearing glasses at 18 months. It took forever for him to get used to them. We also tried ecrything we could think of. As long as we sat right next to him it was fine, but otherwise we would either find broken glasses or not find them at all. ;D He is now 8 and is doing better, he doesn't like wearing them outside, but then here in Northern Canada they would probably freeze to his nose. ;D Patience is the only advice I can give you. We now get the glasses that you can twist and won't break, (can't remember what they are called) The only other advice is hotglue them to his eyebrows. ;D ;D ;D Just joking. Hope it works out.

And if you don't like the hot glue idea, just remember, when the going gets tough, the tough get duct tape. Actually, Charlie is usually quite good about his glasses. We do run him by and get the fit checked and glasses adjusted if need be. Think Claire was thinking about Flexon frames, made out of some titanium alloy and nearly indestructible. Something else you might want to look into is Chums retainers, www.chums.com/?plid=1&div=retailAnother idea is to tie piece of fishing line to glasses and attach line with safety pin to clothes. Idea being, when they throw them, they dangle. Heard of someone who resorted to fishing line as safety rope for hearing aides after kid flushed second set of $2,000 hearing aides at school. But I think all of this is often just new ways to discover just how clever kids with Ds can be. Good luck, Bob

Rosemary got glasses at 13 months. Luckily we never had a problme with her wanting to take them off. We use a Velcro strap combination. What I got (from my local fabric/craft shop, but they don't carry them anymore) and works PERFECTLY was what they call Velcro cable bundles. They are little Velcro straps that are used to "bundle" together computer and electrical cords under your computer desk to keep things organized. I took 2 of them, one for each side of her glasses and attached them and then they hook together in the back. If you can't find the Velcro bundlers, you could make you own. The Velcro things stay on all the time- I just took it off for the picture. Soft side of Velcro towards head. Yours in Christ, Kathy And I JUST figured out how to do photos, so:

There are these great frames called solo bambini, that fit very well, come with a small rope to adjust the siz ena dfit in the back. The kids cannot take them off. Plus they are comfortable so they are not bothered by them. As an added bonus for mom, they won't break the bank, as they top out price wise at 85 dollars. They have sizes from infant through age 12. Check out their website, by googling them. Robin
