Congratulations Laura! I know EXACTLY how you feel. We just found out (about 2 or 3 weeks ago) that we are pregnant, too. Logan just turned 2, and I'll be turning 44 in April. My husband is 51. It took us 16 years to conceive Logan (we didn't think we could have children, and we weren't willing to go through infertility treatments).
Our due date is October 2. Of course, we wonder whether or new baby has Down Syndrome. We hope not, and we realize that the "odds" are that he/she probably doesn't . . . but it's still a concern. Like you, however, we are not going to have any prenatal testing. My cousin lost a perfectly normal child after having an amnio. I'm not willing to take that risk. It wouldn't make any difference what the amnio revealed because we wouldn't terminate the pregnancy, and so we've opted out. Thankfully, our doctor is very supportive of this decision and actually prefers that his patients not have an amnio if this is their belief.
So . . . we'll be praying together. When is your due date?
Congratulations again! It's so exciting!!
Kim Logan (just turned 2)

CONGRATULATIONS! Mom to Rosemary who was naturally conceived and born when I was 48 1/2, after a quite easy pregnancy and delivery (you MUST take care of yourself- eat very well and exercise and pray). You spring chicken, you! Prayers going up. Yours in Chirst, Kathy

Congratulations!
I'm 45 and we hope to have another (or two?). No testing here. I've already had seven miscarriages and wouldn't take the chance. I'll take another child with DS over a miscarriage any day.

Laura - what wonderful news!! Congratulations to you and hubby -- I will keep you and the baby to be in my prayers for a happy and healthy everything! (boy, now I'm getting bitten by that baby bug again!)
re: testing - I had an amnio w/ Meghan and also had one with Matthew...the results wouldn't have changed my mind but I needed to know what I was up against, if anything. But I'll tell you, even with Matthew's amnio results, I don't think I completely relaxed until i had that baby in my arms. We're thinking about having another baby and I honestly don't know what I will do about testing...I've been lucky w/ the amnios twice and don't know if I should tempt fate. I don't think we'll start trying until atleast next year (I'll be 38 in the fall) because Matthew is such a bear - LOL - so who knows...
anyways, again - congrats and prayers for an easy & healthy pg! hugs, laurie

Congratulations Laura!!!! There must be something in the water We are expecting our 4th too. As for prenatal testing......Raven was our 1st, so all the subsequent pregnancies we decided against testing except for the u/s. I still worry a bit (of course), but the testing wouldn't change anything except make me worry even more, so I just try to sit back & enjoy the pregnancy. I am a little more worried about this one, only because before we concieved Raven we had a miscarriage & right before this pregnancy we had a miscarriage as well. Unfortunately, I am a pattern thinker, but we are having a BOY this time, so we'll see!!!! We have 3 girls, so this should be interesting!!!! lol Good luck!!!! Enjoy

After 3 boys I have, I would love to have one little girl very very much! Kelly, welcome to the club - I am 45 too (please do not tell to any one - it's my big secret! Congratulations to all the expectant moms! I am a bit jealous. I hope everyone is feeling fine. I had morning sickness my entire pregnancy with both my girls. Laura, like CBean, I just had to know. I was a few days shy of being 43.5 when Sarah was born. I very much believe that life begins at conception so terminating a pregnancy is absolutely out of the question. I refused the blood tests and had no intention of having an amnio BUT when I went to the geneticist, Sarah's nuchalfold measurement was out of the normal range. I was told that Sarah had a 20% chance of having Ds. I refused the amnio but as soon as I got in the car after our appointment, I had a change of heart. I was so stressed and HAD to know. I had the amnio a week later. I was so surprised that the amnio was not painful. All I felt was pressure. It was a blessing for me to know ahead of time. Sarah's birth was a joyous occassion. We just ooed and awed over our baby just like any new parent. I think it was especially sweet for me because she was such a beautiful newborn (my first looked like a beaten up boxer). Enjoy your pregnancy! Chris

;D LAURA !! That is GREAT news...Here's wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy, and a fast and uneventful delivery !! All I had done with my littlest one Jason was a level 2 ultrasound, and they saw no markers, and so when they told DH it was a boy..He asked them to clean off my tummy and told the Dr. "No needle is going in there to mess up me having a boy, I already have 3 girls." So, we left it at that, and 5 months later I had a c-section with a big ole' 9 lb. 5ox 21 inches boy!! Best wishes to you and ENJOY Michele
