this is a call for help!!!
I am trying to get yet another pair of glasses for the princess and I need some help. If some of you with younger kids can tell me type of glasses your kids wear and how they work, I would appreciate it! I have to find this child some glasses that fit good for a small child and are durable! I realize that children are hard on glasses, but they should be able to last longer than a week!
Thanks... I appreciate your help. Of course, if you can find the TIMEX of glasses, I would be for ever in debt. I would even pay in COOKIES!!!!
Hugs,
Cathy

I am really new here and this is my first post. Excuse me if I'm brief but I have to get going. I wanted to let you know that my 11-month-old daughter wears Disney frames and they are pretty sturdy. She tears them off many times each day and uses them to play drums with. They have only broken once, and that was when the optician was adjusting them, so he replaced them free of charge. They are sort of oval wire-rimmed frames and they come in "blush" (pink). I hope this helped.

My six yr old son (NDA) has the twistable kind of frames, I can't remember the name, but they have been great! His first pair he got at age 5 and the lens was always popping out because of the way he took them off and put them on....These flexible ones are great and the lens has not popped out once so far. THey are kind of hard to find though. Only one optometrist in our town had them.

Rhienne had "Peanuts" glasses for the first couple of years that he wore them. They were brown wire-rims with the wrap-around earpiece. Right at the beginning of the arm (where it attaches to the frame), there was a little figure of Woodstock. They were TOOOO cute! He grew out of them by the time he was about 3 though. We actually had lost a pair and rebought the same frame. Of course after purchasing the new pair, the old ones showed up!! So, we donated one pair to the "Gift of Sight" program, and kept the other. I was just looking at them the other day.

Cathy: We have gotten most of Emily's glasses at Walmart Vision Center....they have quite a few styles and we've had good luck with them being sturdy and cute! They have some kind of policy where you can return them within a year and they will fix them (or replace them??) free. Susan

I think it is really important to find the best warranty you can in your area. Alyse got her first set right after she turned one, she is 20 months now and we have gone through 6 pairs. We do have a 2 year replacement warranty on them so we have been pretty lucky that way. The frames we use are made by europa. The optomistrist said that he has the best luck with them, we also have the wrap ear peices. By the way, we were at the eye doc's a couple of weeks ago and he said that 20 pairs in 9 months is the record around here . I have also used big arms (floaties, swimmies or what ever you call them there) to help keep little hands away from the face with some success. Dani

;D HI I will tell ya that Livs fisher price glasses fit her awesome when she was smaller. They were wrap around.I looked at em the other night and since she got em at 10 months they are so cute and tiny...You know I do have some smaller frames you can have since Liv has outgrown em. I will look tomorrow. At least so she can have a spare.LOL...Now Olivia wears Barbie glasses. They replace one pair a year if they break. The place we go to has been nice and actually replaced 2 frames for nada. Really the co. who makes Barbie glasses will only replace 1.BUT the girlin the store remembered Liv and said doesn'r she have a HIGH script.I said yes she looked it up and said. Her script is 7.0 farsiguhtedness and I can't stand the thought of her not wearing glasses so she comped em for us. One piece of advice...When you get the glasses a lotta times why kids take em off is because the fit is not right or the nose pieces are too large.I always when ordering the frames make sure they order much tinier nose pads. The reason I say this is cuz when Liv had her frames broken the 2 nd time we I just went in without her cause she was at school.WELL the lady just put her lenses in a pair of the same frames as they are originally.I noticed Liv was getting miffed at them cause they kept falling down her nose so we hurried back before she got so mad she broke em.LOLONCE she got the tiny nosepads back on she was as happy as a clam. She didn't mess with em and her glasses weren't all DIRTY frompushing em up with her fingers all the time/We alsogo to a sporting goods store and get a strap so if they do come off they fit around her neck like a necklace.Liv likes the strap that is longet that you can tighten.Hope that helps..Steff

Chris got his glasses when he was 4. There called Flex something, Hmmm I can't remember the name but you can twist, bend and even drive over them with the car YIKES and they stand up. We paid around $140 or so just for the frames but I tell you was well worth it ;D No matter what happened to them, I just brought them back and they were fixed at no cost to me. We never changed frames from when Chris was 4 till just this year, HONEST, he had the original frames for all these years and he wears them all day long. Only reason we changed frames this time, was we picked the same brand but a litte differnt style this year. If you want I will call the guy on Monday and find out the name of the frame BUT I tell you they are the BEST in my opinion ;D

Ashlie also has the Twisty Ones that you can bend, twist, jump on and they are Fine, If they happen to go out of shape you pop them in your freezer for 5 mins and they return to there normal shape, We also put a 2 yr warranty on them, So if her Lenses would change or they would break, get scratced whatever they get replaced for free but we also paid a lot for them but its worth it.
Now when Ashlie was 10 mos old and first got her glasses we did Baby B'Gosh they were the smallest I could find to fit her Nose:)

Cathy, I can feel you pain. When Luke had got his glasses at first, he fight with them a lot and I even do not remember what # he has now. We had lot's of problems with stores and finaly we have found that Sears is the best. If you get glasses with insurance than they will fix or replace all glasses as many times as needed. Good luck, Alice

Flexon (twistable) glass frames are good but I am noticing kind of heavy. Kendall is almost four and has worn glasses since 18 months. He wears them about eleven hours a day now. I have had the best luck with very small lightweight wire frames with templeton (around the ear) type ear pieces. We always buy the extended warranty and we didn't push the wearing glasses too hard. We started during walks, videos, mealtimes etc and gave huge congratulations after each session. When he tore them off we said thank you and didn't put them on again for at least 1/2 an hour. Somewhere around 3 years old he started to realize he could see so much better with them on. I will admit it was a full time job watching where the glasses are now but recently he just wears them or hands them to me when his eyes get tired. The best of luck to you!

I am psyched! I went by a eye docs office today and they finally have a pair of the twisty frames that will be small enough for Patrick (age 3 1/2) and also will have the cable arms! They are ordering some in for us to look at. This office has been great, they even called the lab in town that fills all the medicaid perscriptions and got them to order another pair of lenses for Patrick's medicaid glasses. He has only had them since October 16th and they are all scratched up!!! And the office that I got them from basically told me there was nothing they could do about it! This lady is great, she really knows the ropes...just wait till I can bend the ear of the guy who ordered the first pair!

Hello!
My 3 year old has had glasses for a year. We learned the hard way after scratching and breaking the first pair the same day we got them! Fortunately, the store was forgiving and replaced them for free but normally their replacement policy stunk. (Lenscrafters). I went to Sears next to have an extra pair mainly because they had Blues Clues and Dora. The funny thing about that is we wound up getting a titanium pair (flexible) which are AWESOME. Sophia can twist them and they never break. Keeping them on was another store, but we do have an adjustable strap now that she likes. I think Sears is nationwide and my experience was good. Plus, they always have sales so you don't have to spend a fortune. The flexible glasses are the only way to go with little ones!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I am going to shop around here in the UP for some glasses for Katie, If I have no luck, I will shop the next time I am in IL (end of Jan). I truly appreciate all your advice!!! Hugs, Cathy hmmmm was just wondering.. do you think it would be cruel to duct tape the glasses to Katie so that she will leave them on? (for those of you who do not know me... I AM JUST TEASING!)
