As I was reading your post, I was thinking, OMG, I need to get those for my sister (she will be 40 in July) . . . and then I realized you were probably posting that for our kids' sake! LOL
My sister used to have a HUGE crush on Bozo - until she heard that he was retiring and must be like 70 years old! So . . . yeah, she had a crush on him WITH the makeup! I guess she has just always gone for guys with great personalities.
I know what I'm getting her for her 40th birthday present - thanks for the tip!

OMG!!!! BOZO... My M.O every morning when I was a kid was to watch Bozo, then Felix the Cat, and finally Romper Room. That dang lady NEVER ONCE said my name when she looked thru her MAGIC MIRROR!!!!! I waited EVERY morning for a LONG time to hear her say I SEE STEPHANIE!!!!! Gotta love Bozo. My son who is 8 and this little tough guy, is scared to DEATH of clowns. Never forget thinking wow I will take you to the circus he was 5 we got to our seats the clowns approached as the lights dimmed and tears poured down his face. We got a bag of popcorn and cotton candy and left. Have you guys seen the movie death to Smoochy with Robin Williams? ? Just curious... I just saw it and LOL!!!! It's...it's.....it's...... A ROCKET SHIP!!!!!" LMAO

I heard many years later the guy who was bozo was a big wine-o and chain smoked and hated kids. i saw some pics of him in his undershirt, shorts and bozo make up with a drink and a cig in his hand. It was never the same after that.

LOL!!! I hated Bozo! I hate all clowns! Anyone ever hear of the movie "Killer Clowns from Outer Space"?
Anyhow, Felix was one of my fav's and OMG! Romper Room. She never called my name, really ticked me off as a kid. Would sit through that whole show just to see if she would look in that crazy magic mirror of hers and see me. Blah!
Target stores now feature a dollar section and they also sell vintage DVD's for a buck. We've picked up Felix, Casper, Superman (cartoon) and Popeye! Great fun!

I also HATE all clowns. They freak me out, always have, even as a child, but has gotten worse since I've been older.
There's something about them that is just evil, lol.
Seriously though, I really dont like them and am sort of afraid of them.
YUCK!

Don't hate clowns either but I have found that lots of people do...one day I was looking up something on Yahoo and came across a whole blog of people who posted about their clown phobias. My best friend and I go to Cirque du Soliel every year when they have a new show...one time we brought her boyfriend. Big, gorgeous guy 6'3" (we later found out he was gay but that's a whole 'nother story)....anyways - they did this bit with a clown, and he was FREAKING out...we thought it was funny because the cirque clowns are not "traditional-looking" clowns, ya know. But it was just the idea for him, I guess.
and I'm with the rest of you on Romper Room...Never once did that lady (Miss MaryAnne?) say my name...and I thought I was the only one. So who WERE all those kids?
And did anyone watch Magic Garden w/ Carol and Paula? That was one of my favorites....and of course WONDERAMA.
OK, enough reminiscing for now...I'm totally off topic, LOL. Can't remember if I liked Bozo or not, but I know I watched it...still can't beat the Little Rascals for anything 'cause I still watch that today!

I loved Bozo, and so did my older boys as they were growing up!
Emily, on the other hand, has never liked clowns at all! She seems almost afraid of them, even today! When I checked her into camp last Sunday, they asked me what her fears were.........and she will gladly tell you "I HATE cats and clowns"! I have no idea why she is afraid of either one.
Did anyone see the Stephen King movie "IT"? Now that was one bad clown!!!

LOL...Bozo...I remember him....I am of the HOWDY DOODY era. I was born in Kansas City in 1946 when tv was pretty new....but we had one because my family was in the music, tv, and record player (yes phonograph records.....as in 78rpm...pre stereo and pre 45s) business. I watched HD and Bozo...and the orignal Miss Francis of Ding Dong School...and later the original Captain Kangaroo and Winky Dink....Winky Dink had a screen you could paste onto your tv screen and draw with the moving dot.........LOL...oh my those were the days.
I would like to find the 78 rpm album of Bozo Under the Sea.....almost had one on Ebay years ago...but then ran into some problems like Susans with the prom dress and dont got there anymore. Jackie

Okay... this is for those of you who were permanently scarred by Ms. Maryann King's lack of name-calling on Romper Room... I frequently see Ms. King as she attends many of the same events that I do. When I was first introduced to her about 5 years ago, I did what any full-grown adult would do... I immediately told her how she broke my heart because she never mention my name . We laughed about it, and she said she was sorry. She said, "could you excuse me for a moment, dear?" and went outside. When she returned, she had her magic mirror - and in a room FULL of people, yep, she did the magic mirror routine and called my name!!! LOL!!! She takes her mirror with her EVERYWHERE!! Remember - be a "do-bee" ;D

Felix the Cat The wonderful, wonderful cat You'll laugh so hard Your sides will ache Your hear will go pitter pat Watching Felix The wonderful cat At least that is what I remember. Can you hear me singing? I also used to hold my breath waiting for Miss Maryann to call my name, too. My heart would sink everytime she was done. I used to wish my name was Mary, Susan, Karen or any popular name from the 50's. Nobody was named Christina way back when I was little. Bozo wasn't my favorite. I preferred Captain Kangaroo. There really wasn't much time devoted to children's programming back in the early-mid 60's. Saturday mornings were always a time I looked forward to. I also loved watching Davey and Goliath on Sunday mornings. This is really off the subject but my dog had a miscarriage when I was a kid and adopted a Pokey (from Davey and Goliath) as her puppy. It was really kind of sad. She took such good care of it and carried it with her everywhere. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Chris

Sorry, don't remember Bozo or Maryann, but I do remember Betty Lou's Magic Window and the Felix the Cat cartoon. One of the lyrics of the song was...
Whenever he is in a fix He reaches into his bag of tricks!
You wouldn't want to hear me sing this, either!
