Ok, as you all know, Justin is a bit behind in the gross motor development. We have been working very hard with him on getting him to sit and get into a crawl position. Well....being the determined boy he is.....he has opted for the push up on belly, swing legs into the splits, and sweep them to the front....voila....he is sitting!!!!!!!!! I am tickled pink that he is actually sitting up unassisted....he is now 26 months old, so I have waited a while for this magical moment. UNFORTUNATELY, as I expected, PT is happy with his progress but wants to retrain his methods. I am about to have one Po'd little boy. He finally does something for the first time ever and he has to be re trained!!! I am praying that he will not lose interest. He is very stubborn....if he can't do it his way....he won't do it period!!!! This is why he steamrolls to get places instead of crawling....he likes it better and has it mastered. Oh well. I guess my bubble will soon be bursting!

Deanna~ I'm grinning from ear to ear now........what great news! I can just SEE Justin doing this, and am proud of him for being so determined! I'll hope and pray with you that he'll be ok with the re-training. WTG Justin!!!

Great news!!! Right or wrong way, it just makes you melt all over.
In the beginning, MeKyah started it doing it that way but we kept doing what PT told us and now she's doing it, what PT considers the right way. She hasn't changed up since, so it won't be as hard as you think. In fact, it may actually be easier.

That's GREAT!! ;D Every milestone is so precious with these guys, isn't it? My son started sitting up that way, too, we didn't even realize it was "wrong" at first, we were just thrilled that he found a way to do it! With him, we just showed him a couple times how the "proper way" was, and he picked up on it in no time and started doing it. And he is just as stubborn as yours sounds!! It's usually his way, or NO WAY! Our problem right now is he wants to feed himself, and he does a really good job. But if you want to show him a better way to hold the spoon, then he gets mad at you and no longer wants to use the spoon!

You've just brought back fond, happy memories of Ryan doing the exact same thing!! We were all in awe of his method - and so delighted that he did it, afterall - it's his choice! And yes, we too had to re-train but don't let that in any way take away from his accomplishment!! WTG Justin!!

WTG, Justin. Kids can be so creative in finding their way to do things. Yosh bounced on his tush for the longest time to get from place to place, and now he's walking.
I'm sure Justin will master the "right way" but its still great that he's accomplished something new.

THAT IS AWESOME DEANNA!!!!!! WOOHOOO JUSTIN!!!
I think Russell did that too! And yes, they DO get kinda pissy when they have to be retrained... don't let that burst your bubble too much, this moment you've been waiting for is here, no matter HOW he got there!
Enjoy the "sit ups"!!!! ;D

Deanna, Aidan did this method of sitting up too! And...he didn't get retrained for a LONG TIME! His PT was not thrilled with this method, but it was nearly impossible to stop him, he was so fast at it! I remember clearly the day he first sat up on his own...doing the splits, no less...but it was terribly exciting! He DID learn to do it the right way...it just took him a while because he was tooooo good at the splits! LOL Congrats to Justin! That's awesome! ;D
