Ok, I asked this question at my support group last Wed and I think I got kind of scoffed at!!! LOL!!!
Is it possible that my wonderful, little flower who just turned 4 months old could be teething? She's learned to suck her thumb and chews on it quite nicely! Plus, we've had a little daiper rash. Also, we've learned how to be cranky and to cry rather loudly. So, is it possible that she's teething.
Yes I know that children with DS teeth forever and get there teeth later and not in the typical order. So, anybody? This can also turn into a "When did your child start teething?" post! ;D

I defintely think she could be teething. Laura is 11.5 months and has 6 teeth already (4 on top and 2 on bottom). She is getting more, although I can't tell where, but she is drooling like crazy. She got her first 2 teeth at 7 months. My ped says babies (all babies) can teeth for months before actually cutting a tooth.
By the way, Laura is getting her teeth in the typical order and at about the same rate as my older daughter.

Meghan got ALL her teeth in the "typical" order and the same time as "typical" children...I can't remember when she got her first tooth but it was "right on time"...if I come across her baby book today in my travels I'll check & let you know. So sad that I can't remember these things anymore, LOL!
but, yes, I'd say it's ABSOLUTELY possible! laurie

I think it's possible. But Charlie, being Charlie, did not cut his first tooth until he was 27 months. He'll be 6 in July and he just started getting one of the two teeth he hasn't cut yet. Looked like everything was there, but one of the things on our shopping list that we haven't done yet is to get him x-rayed again and checked by a good pediatric dentist. From www.ds-health.com/dental.htm <<The eruption of teeth in persons with Down syndrome is usually delayed and may occur in an unusual order. (Mussig et al, 1990; Fisher-Brandeis, 1989). The delay in eruption may be as long as two to three years. >> But maybe Emily thinks she needs to get busy filling up her smile. I think her smile is bright enough but would defer to her judgment on this matter. Cheers, Bob

Absolutely. Carter started at 6 months, then his gums grew over them and he had to recut the bottom two right after his first birthday. Then he got 6 more like popcorn. Sydney seems to be following his same pattern, but has four more than he did at this phase (she has her four front top and bootom and her first molare, he had the two front top and bottom). C got all his two year molars at 20 months and then filled in the front. Rally after the front two, I think it' spretty much anything goes for any kid.

I agree with everyone else here. Paige got her teeth in the "typical order" and she cut her first one (s) at 5 months. She never just did one at a time (nor did my son) she always did two or three.

ABSOLUTELY! Russell too teethed like a typical child and got all his teeth the "right" way and on time! In fact, I had NO CLUE that children w/DS teeth later then usually (makes sense, just never really thought about it) and usually get them in odd orders. Russell got his first tooth at 6 months. We made a joke with my boss about this. Her grand-daughter was born 2 months before Russell and did not have DS.. so we were ALL shocked that Russell teethed first! Russell is now trying OH so hard to get his 6 yr molars in still (ok, so the 6 yr molars are a bit behind LOL) and he goes in spurts of teething and gnawing on things. Sometimes the teething process happens a month or two before the actually BURST of tooth anyway, so it very well be possible! A.

SURE CHRISTINE, sounds like EMILY could be starting to teeth, I mean, why not???
Chris to be honest, I can't remember when he got his first tooth, I know it was later then Kodi Lee. What I did notice with my guy is it seemed like he was teething forever before the tooth ever appeared
Kodi Lee got her teeth very early and lost them early and Chris was just the opposite. The Dentist did tell me if you get your teeth early generally you will lose them early.
All I know is THANK GOODNESS for the FLORIDE vitamins and treatments, Kodi being almost 16 knock wood not one cavity ;D and Chris too, knock wood at 12 also has nooo cavitiies ;D
BTW if I remember right your leaving for Disney soon girl, HAVE a BLAST

Nicholas got his first tooth ( 3 actually) the day before he turned 1 yr. After that they just came in bunches (and in the right order) until he had them all in just 2-3 mos. I do seem to remember that he would have spells where he was teething, the gum would be red and swollen, then it would go back down, and we'd start again a couple wks later. Every child's different. It's entirely possible that she's teething, or then again, she could be "practicing" like Nicholas did!
