Has anyone heard of this? We finally had our appointment with the Ents at U of M. They have scheduled Kyle for Tubes, tonsils adnoids removal. And they are going to do some sort of scope to look at his voice box. They say he has larynogomalacia. If he does have this they are going to do laser surgery. We thought he would need the tubes and probably tonsils and adnoids. But we were thinking some sort of blockage with breathing he is noisy and sleep apnea. It is getting worse as he grows. He is scheduled for surgery June 14. Kind of scary because we have waited for this appt for quite a while and then they schedule this surgery so fast. We are glad they are getting him in so soon we want him to feel better. It has been a long winter. Vicki

HI!!!! I know what larygngomalacia is even though I can't spell it..LOL My girl had tracheomalacia and was a noisy breather as well. But they said the vascular ring Liv had caused her tracheomalacia.Actually I looked it up it is called tracheobronchomalacia. Gee small word eh??? Her trachea and bronch would collapse causing her to have sleep apnea and low sats and trouble breathing. After Olivias vascular ring surgery her tracho... went away after about sheesh the time she was walking and she had her surgery at 8 months and she walked at 23 months so a little after that she was absolutely much better. From dr len leshins site here is the def for laryng...definitions: Laryngomalacia is the collapsing inward of tissues at the laryngeal area.causing stridor...Does your child have stridor? has any ped ever said that to you? What they will do is do an endoscopy on your child. give them meds to make em doze then take a thin tube like thing with a camera(teeny) and take a look around. They usually do it through the nose to where they need to go. Your child won't know a thing. Then they will see what the problem is and either repair it or take pics and study em and whatever they do with em.lOL .Liv had her endoscoopy 2 times and my hubby gets em 4 different reasons 6-8 times a year so they are not so shabby but if ya have ?'s call the doc and ask em don't let em just tell ya what they're gonna do and go in with unanswered ?'s K??? HUGS and good luck Steff

Kourtney had a stridor when she was born but, they explained to us that this happened because of the doctor irritating her throat when suctioning her out. She did have tonsils and adnoids removed and tubes put in when she turned 3 and theing s have been working good for her . Good luck to you and prayers for Kyle. Love that name ( my nephew is Kyle and he will be 6 in June )

My little boy Justin was diagnosed with laryngomalacia a few months after birth. He has never been able to swallow and has been on tube feeds his whole life. He has been a very noisy breather for many months, but ENT blew us off, even though I knew he was obstructing. We did the sleep study thing, and then he was readmitted in May for desatting and turning blue.....again!!! They scoped him and also found tracheomalacia, although they said it was probably not causing many problems. He had surgery May28th to remove his tonsils, adenoids, part of his soft palate, and part of his uvula. The surgery went well, but the post op course was hell. 11 days intubated and on the vent due to 4 infections he got in the PICU!!! Anyway, he is still on O2, but if we get some weight off of him (he is a chunker) hopefully, we will avoid getting a trach. This probably did not help at all!!! Sorry!
