OMG it is making Chris soooo soooo sick and not only sick but I tell you he is actting very very odd The ENT put him on it last Thursday and wanted him to take 2 teaspoons 1 time a day for the next six weeks. Well you can forget that. I noticed over the weekend he was actting odd and not eatting and now he will eat nothing and tuly was actting bizzard today Even got a note from his teacher that he was not listening, not working and her exact words were "he seem to be in his own little world today" I have a call into the ENT but missed his return call sooo for now I am just taking him off this stuff. Alls I know is ever since I have had him on it he is not my Chris
Have any of you used this and had any problems???

Hello Christie. It ME!!! Nicky has been on this antibiotic for about four months now and has no obvious side effects, he has 10 ml twice a day. He has teenage acne and the doctor prescribed it long term as if any of the spot became infected then the infection could travel to his heart and cause devastating results due to the Eisengmenger Syndrome. I am sure you doctor could change the anitbiotic to something that suit Chris better. Love from the UK, Pauline.

CC~ I can't take Erythromycin at all! If I take even one tablet, I start to vomit. I've never tried to take enough of it to cause any other reactions but I'm sure it can affect some people in a variety of ways. I'm so glad you took Chris off of it.......no one needs to feel that bad when there are other antibiotics out there. Susan

Hunh, I've never heard/read about reactions like Chris seems to be having, aside from the decreased appetite, but that's not to say that it's not possible. Erythromycins are notoriously hard on the stomach and really need to be taken with a meal... Hope the dr gets back to ya quick and y'all find something better suited for Chris! laurie

Erythromycin was really popular in the 80's when so many people were becoming more and more racked up off of plain ole penicillin. I remember that be offered ALL the time for infections. I do remember it also eating my stomach up sometimes but not too bad. But I don't hear of it being used to much anymore.
Sounds like Chris is allergic to it, IMO. Did you call the doc? Has he had too much other antibiotics that he NEEDED the Eryth? Poor guy!!!!!
Good luck CC.

Kourtney was prescribed this once and when I got home my mother-in-law explained to methat this is one that can permanently stain your adult teeth..I called my Ped..because she was given this at the emergency room and my Ped even told me that over time this can cause damage to the adult teeth..I think this is the one not trying to scare ya seriously..I do recall that he doctor told me to just trash it and he would prescribe something else..So, that is what I did...Anyone else ever heard of an antibiotic graying teeth ??

CC - Not sure if you've heard back from your dr.'s as of yet, but I thought that I would share this.
Paige just started Adderall 10XR and before that she was on Focalin. My developmental pediatrician told me that when kids who take stimulant meds are prescribed antibiotics, they interfere with the absorption of the stimulant meds and can cause ADHD Inattentive, Impulsive or other behavioral symptoms to reappear or new ones to appear ONLY during the course of the antibiotic.
I dont know if this is true or not, but I will say that Paige was on Augmentin 600 ES for a sinus infection a couple of weeks ago, and I actually questioned whether or not she got her other meds in the morning, and so did the teacher. She became so bizarre behaving - even different that what she was put on the meds for........when we were done with the Augmenten, she "came back to us", lol.
I am bringing this up only as a possibility as I think I remember your replying to my post on meds b/c Chris was on them as well.

Hey Debbie, that is interesting to know. I will keep that in mind if Regan ever gets sick and needs Anti's. She is off meds for the summer after trying different things for the year, but will probably go back on a stimulant when school resumes....

THANKS guys for sharing all the info. At the moment I am a bit ticked off at the ENT as we keep missing each other on the phones Colin and I just stopped the antibotic last night, figuring that was the problem, but still he is not eatting Not drinking soo much either, Hmmmm not sure what the heck is up with Chris Tonight he just cried and Honestly he is not one to cry I did get a hold of the PED and the Pharmacist (sp?) and they both said the only thing this drug is known for is making ones stomach sick. So I am thinking his odd behaviors may be because he feels sick and not sure how to tell me that, Hmmmm Although he is getting better with that and now will ask for the Doctor when he doesn't feel well. I called the ENT again today and again we missed each other Grrrrrrr. I tell you I keep telling the nurse my question and tell her to TELL the DOC to leave me a message on my home phone or cell if I miss his call. Grrrrr you think he would, NOOOOOOO alls I keep getting is a message that he will try again later So I will call tomorrow and DEMAND the Doc get on the phone NOW Odd thing is tonight Chris keeps pointing to his mouth, Hmmmm now I am sitting here wondering if maybe he has a tooth ache and the meds were not the problem at all I tell you guys, Seeing Chris look sooo sad and something obviously bothering him and NOT knowing what the heck it is, is killing me I gave him some Tylenol tonight and he seem to calm enough to go to sleep for the moment Guess just to be safe I will put a call into the dentist tomorrow too. DEBBIE, THANKS for the info but NO Chris is not on any meds other then his heart meds. I will let you know what this turns out to be as soon as I know Alls I can say is I am soooo sad to see my little Character soooo sad, and in some kind of pain and not know what the heck it is Thanks for letting me vent my worries... Aw, CC...so sorry to hear this!! Sounds like it really might be something other than side effects to the antibiotic, though? Definitely insist on speaking to ENT today so you can get some answers. Hope Chris feels better SOON!!

Well, the puzzle has been solved. Thursday I had Chris to the Ped and also talked with the Ped Dentist and the ENT and I finally hooked up. Turns out he has viral (sp) Gingivitis (sp) OMG guys his bottom gums are all sooooo RED and Puffy and every time the poor kid pointed to his mouth I looked down his throat never looking below at his bottom gums What a nurse I make I tell you Ped tells me this can be very common in kids, although I will have to say I never heard of it before Anywho the Ped was convinced that was it and said it can be very painful and last about a week, just to keep giving him Tylenol for pain. The Ped Dentist agreed and said if not better in a week to bring him in or if gets worse before a week bring him in. Sooo it seems the timing of starting the new antibiotic and his gum problem we are not sure if he stopped eating due to the antibiotic or the gum problem or both Sooo for now he is off the antibiotic and once this is all cleared up we are to start him back on the erythromycin for his sinus problem and if again he stops eating we are to stop it all together. The ENT says he is using this med as a Sinus preventative because he doesn't want to use a common antibotic that they would use if Chris did get sick. So we shall see, at the moment Chris is still not eating so my guess it is the gums as he has been off the antibiotic for a few days now. YIKERS I tell you, figuring out what is wrong with Chris at times is like putting a puzzle together that's not that easy but after trying a few pieces, it gets done THANKS as always guys for your input BTW, CONNIE, if you read this YES YES PLEASE share with me the outcome of Collin's Cat Scan of his Sinus. The Ped yesterday agreed with our ENT that Chris may just need to have an operation as he can't have sinus infections all the time. I reminded her of the tonsil experience for us and she was like well one step at a time. Hmmmm maybe for her, BUT I still say nooo freakin operation CC
