Just wondering at what age did your kids start rolling over and sitting up? MeKyah (ds) will be 6 months on Wednesday and she does well sitting up with assistance but when alone she only sits up for a few seconds. As for rolling over, she always seem like she's going to roll but never does. yet anyway. I know she will do these things eventually but I was just curious as to what age your kids started this.
Jeannette, MY daughter was a wonder baby as far as the rolling. She rolled over at 1wk & both ways by 4wks~ we literally had to have the intake worker look the other way when she was about to roll back so she didn't "score out" on their stupid assessment. However, at 1yr she was still a bit wobbily when she sat on anything other than the floor.(I remember having to stand by so she didn't nosedive while her 1yr portrait was taken)
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
Paige also rolled really early - I remember it distinctly b/c she rolled off of the bed, from the center, in what seemed to be a split second, and I thought I was the worst mother in the world She was about 2 months old. Sitting unassisted, she was about 9-11 months old and she crawled for the first time on her first birthday. Walked at 14 months.
I think MeKyah (and I LOVE her name) is doing great, and well within the developmental milestones - even for kids without DS.

Gotta agree with Debbie on this one, Mekyah is doing awesome! Ethan rolled over early too, and sat at about 8 months unassisted. He didn't crawl until 15 months, and is still not walking even now at 28 months. He can usually take up to ten steps, and has even walked all the way down our hallway, but his preferred mode of travel is still crawling.
We motivated Ethan to sit by putting on his Baby Mozart video. He wanted to watch it so bad that he would fight to stay upright, LOL!

Meghan rolled at 3 months 1 week (belly to back) and 4 months (back to belly) -- I had to look at her baby book 'cause I didn't remember She sat alone at 8 1/2 months and was able to get into sitting alone by 9 1/2 months. We used alot of the techniques at home from the gross motor skills book -- one thing I found that worked really well to help her sit up and strengthen her trunk muscles was a bed tray. We would help her to sit and kneel in front of it and put 'cause and effect type toys or books on the tray. And of course the Boppy Pillow. terrible that I can't remember these things on my own...and it was less than 3 yrs ago! Just wanted to add...I read in one book (maybe the Gross Motor Skills book?) that some kids are motor driven and some are observers - and I've always liked to look at things this way. Some children are content to sit and observe - and it sometimes takes these children longer to move around than children who are motor driven because motor driven kids wanna go! go! go! It just always helped me put things into perspective, i think...not to just look at it like well, Meghan isn't motivated or doesn't/can't/won't...know what I mean? MeKyah sounds like she's doing great! laurie

Alison rolled belly to back at about 4 months but didn't go from her back to her belly until she was about 9 months old. I guess she found the ceiling to be VERY fascinating!?! She sat unassisted at about the same time she started rolling from her back to her belly. She is still not able to get from her back to a sitting position without a little help but I think that shouldn't be neccessary for much longer. At 13 months she isn't crawling yet but she gets around pretty fast by rolling over and over!!!
I think Laurie hit the nail on the head when she said that some kids are motor-driven and some are observers. Alison is definitely one to watch and observe things going on around her, this kiddo doesn't miss a thing!!! Her oldest sister was the same way, but "the poor middle child" ( yes, my 2nd daughter has taken to referring to herself this way!!!) has always been on a mission to get someplace! She crawled before she was 7 months and was running ( I don't think this child has ever just walked in her entire life!!!) by the time she was 8 1/2 months old!
Just try to remember every child has their own time table and just help MeKyah as much as you can - she'll the rest!

Thanks to all for responding and giving the advice. I do feel MeKyah is progressing well, I was just a bit curious. MeKyah was sedated the first 2 weeks of her life because the Dr's didn't want her working against the medication she was on, so watching her now trying to do different things is truly a blessing.
Thanks again and I'll keep you updated on her progress.
Once Kourtney recovered from her heart surgery I would say at around 5 months she started rolling both way and by 6 months she was sitting alone..She walked at 14 months old and has not stopped since...
Adam now 6 did not start rolling over until he was 16 mths old. But once he got the hang of it he could roll around the corner to the living room faster the his sister could run them. ;D ;D He did not sit without support until he was 21mths and even then we had to be careful.
Ali rolled over at 2 weeks and was rolling to get around by 2 months. (That runs in my family, my siblings and I all rolled over by a month. My second daughter, non DS just started rolling over at 4 months!) Ali was sitting totally unassisted by 7 months. She started belly crawling around 12 months and started crawling on all fours at 14 months. She was pulling to a stand around 12 months, and is now doing it on everything at 15 months. She is just starting to cruise furniture too.
Aidan rolled for the first time when he was 2 months or so...he did it a few times, but really didn't take off rolling until about 6 months. He didn't start sitting unsupported until 13 months. Took him a while, he's the type of kid who has to be "perfect" at everything before he does it! LOL After he decided he could sit perfectly, he did great and never fell down! He's so funny!
Staci~proud mother to Aidan (9-19-00, DS) and his little sis, Parker (5-27-03, TOF), EDD 1-24-07
Ashley rolled over for the first time at 4 months and sat unsuppotred at 7 months and sat herself up by 8 months and started crawling at 9 1/2 months. At 10 months she started pulling herself up to cruise on furniture. at 1yr she started to stand by herself. Now she takes a few steps here and there. i think she could walk completely but is scared. She will do it when she is ready. Hopefully I'll be ready.
