I just wanted to share with everyone that Jared had surgery this morning on his right ear. This was the third procedure he's had done for a cholesteatoma. Actually the procedure was called "tympanoplasty with fascia graft & tube replacement." What they did was exploratory to check for a cholesteatoma under the right drum, which the doctor didn't find one, but he did find scar tissue that had attached to one of the ear bones, the Incus (also called Anvil). He also had to do another skin graft to the ear drum. So Jared has an incision above his right ear that is about 2" long where they took the skin for the graft. His right tube was replaced & he didn't have to one put in the left side. (It's been out for awhile now & we're not having any problems at this time with fluid build up on that side.) The doctor did say at this point since we didn't find a reoccurring cholesteatoma, that we aren't anticipating having to do this procedure again. I'm also anxious for everything to heal up & see if there is an improvement in his hearing loss on that side since scar tissue was removed from the ear bones.
As of this evening, Jared, seems to be doing fine. He is complaining about the bandage that they put all the way around his head with a big fluffy section over the right ear area to protect it. The bandage keeps slipping down & keeps getting into his eyes, so every 5 minutes he yells for me to pull it back up. Lucky us, he has to wear this thing till Wed. (Last time we went through this it came off on the way home (3hr drive 1-way), this time it's still on, but I'd bet it will be off by the time he gets up in the morning.
It also wasn't a very pleasant morning getting this child into the building to have this procedure done. From the time he got up this morning, all he could talk about was "where are we going for breakfast? I'm hungry!" When we pulled up in front of the building, Jared said "Is this the allergy clinic?" I said, no. Then he said, "Is this the surgery center?" I said, yes. Jared then replied with quite a tone in his voice.........."I'm not getting out of the car!!" "I'm not going in!" We finally talked him into going in to check out the toy room. They have a "Thomas" the train set up for the kiddos to play with. And it's his favorite!! The sad part is his procedure was scheduled for 9:00 am & Jared was still asking for breakfast even when they were taking him back into the operating room. You'd think I'd be used to going through this since it's his 8th surgery in 6yrs. And he's figured out the game plan because he hid under a blanket & ignored the anesthesiologist while he was visiting with us. (I did get a kick out of that because my child is "never" quiet!!) When it was finally his turn, nothing or no one could talk Jared into going with the doctor. They finally had to pick him up & physically carry him back while he was yelling at me. "I want my mom! No, I'm not going! Don't you know what no means! I said, No! I'm hungry! I want breakfast!"
I hope everyone else is doing well!! We've been out of school since May 25th & boy has it been a "long" summer already, lol. Take care & have a great week!!
