Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to settling in and finding my way around.
Nicholas is 21 months old and is in the EI program. He is currently receiving Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapies. The physical therapist, however, just tried to discontinue services because she feels that Nicholas has the ability to walk, but just doesn't want to. This has been the first time that I've had to put my foot down and tell her that I wasn't comfortable with that decision. As a compromise, she will see him once a month until his yearly meeting in October. Actually, this works out well since we will be entering him again this summer in the Aquatots program he loved so much last year. Nicholas is not eligible for a developmental group until he turns two, so my husband and I decided it would be good for him to go to daycare part-time. While we've seen such a wonderful change in him since, we've also picked up every bug that ever stepped in the place!
Nicholas has an older brother, Jason, who's 15, who just loves him to pieces. After being an only child for 13 years, he's made the adjustment quite well (except when Nicholas ate his favorite baseball card last year). Jason is right there clapping and praising with Dad and I everytime Nicholas masters a new skill.
We live in IL (outside Chicago) and would love any feedback on support groups, seminars, etc. that some of you may know of.
Thanks again. (Can't seem to master the smiley face thing yet!)
