For all you parents of younger children!
Today is the last day of sixth grade. My son arrives home at 11:30.
At ll:45 a new friend from middle school (typical kid) is coming to play.
At 1:00 I have to tactfully end the playdate and drive the kid home because my son is invited for pizza and games at another home with 8 of his other typical friends.
Then we will stop by and see his friend, Aaron, who is recovering from heart surgery.
Following that he will have to come home and change for swim team practice. The country club swim team, which has won the league championship for 18 straight years, voted to recruit our son to swim for them.
After that, we will have to set up the continental breakfast for the reporter and photographer from the paper who are arriving first thing in the morning. They will be doing a story on his report on a vietnam veteran whose name appears on the memorial wall and the long distance friendship he has developed with the veteran's wife. Also attending will be the teacher that introduced him to a book about Washington D.C. memorials and members of the veteran's family.
Ever since he was a baby, I prayed that he would not sit home alone and be deperately lonely.
Be careful what you pray for!

I is nice to hear the veteran mom's experiences. I still feel like a novice 3 years into it, and I DO have all the worries of friendships-and behaviors-and language-and what functional level-and mainstream/self-contained/inclusion-and on and on. I think it would be great if more Moms and Dads could share a day in the life... Today... James arose about 8:15, ate without throwing his juice cup or his waffle (huge feat) James rolled around laughing like a loon with his 5 year old sister Got James, Caroline and Emily dressed and lathered up for a trip to the pool Fought with James to get water wings on, got him into the wading pool where the giggles began ;D James walked around wading pool, splashing, laughing and swallowing water at regular intervals James sat on my lap and hugged, kissed and then licked the top of his baby sister's head- who, of course, did all she could to escape the licking! As it started to rain, packed everyone up and came home. Fed James PB&J and juice- again no throwing - then put him down without a fight for a nap! Not quite as exciting as MB's day, but we will get there!! Thanks for sharing!
