I am asking for your prayers. Cooper is having another minor surgery this Friday, Sept 24th. He has a testicle that has not descended yet and the Dr wants to go in and "pull" it down. This can turn into cancer if it stays up at body temp. We will also go ahead and have him circumcised. They would never do it before because of his heart problems and the surgery. He is now 8 months post op and says that it is ok. I am just a little nervous just because he will be put to sleep and that is just a little scary. So please everyone be thinking of Cooper this week. My precious baby has already been through 3 surgeries and I am ready for him to be able to rest for a while. Thanks to all of you, who are always so kind. Wendey

Prayers for Cooper and his up coming surgery!!!
Russell didn't have his circ done until he was 18 months old because he had other health stuff going on at birth too.

Hmm, well, at the risk of not being included in those who are always so kind, I'd note that maybe testicle season opened early this year. There's been a similar thread over on the Down-syn listserv, listserv.nodak.edu/ started last Friday. I won't repeat everything I posted in response. Just one of those been there, done that, have the tee shirt posts. But here's one little bit of unnecessary clarification, "Having undescended testicles does increase, slightly, the risk for testicular cancer. Surgical repair does not decrease the risk but makes examination and diagnosis easier, better." Actually, think I said Charlie's bilateral orchidopexy at almost 24 mos. old was one of his easier day surgeries. But it is a very good idea to have a very good, skillful, pediatric urologic surgeon. And maybe it's even more important to have a good, skillful, attentive pediatric anesthesiologist. Will remember to have good thoughts for Cooper on Friday. -- Bob

sorry to hear your little guy is going to need more surgery. We are in discussions about tubes in the ears and possibly more heart surgery so I can relate!
I will be thinking of Cooper and hoping this is his last surgery!

Carter had that! His was a bilateral and it turns out they were somehow caught up and tuck behid the muscle wall so they would push through - sorta then back out because something was wrapped up. It was not a big deal, though at the time it was, so I know where you're coming from! He slept it off most of the day and was well wnough that there was no reason for me not to go to school that night though I had arranged not to be there. He didn't eat much then that night he got up on my mom's lap and slammed down a huge pile of rice and gravy and three crescent rolls.
My olny adivce having been there - it looks horrid at first but soon goes down. You'll have the circ covered anyway, but I would remember to put vaseline or a little bacetracin on the scars and set a little piece of gauze on those, too. One poop explosion and I regretted not thinking of it beforehand, so thought I would pass that on!

Cooper had his surgery today and is doing well. The surgery lasted 4 hours!! They told me to expect 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was really nervous but Cooper did good. They had a little bit of problem waking him up and his oxygen level was low(89) I think it was from being so out of it. He is at home tonight sitting in the floor playing. I knew my boy was strong. Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Mom is ok, better now that he has woke up. Thanks again. Wendey

Well, I finally saw this post after the surgery was over!!!! Anyway, FYI....Justin has bilateral undescended testicles. We had planned on surgery earlier this year....but the whole May surgery nixed it. After it took himm 11 long days to come off the vent....we all said to wait til AFTER RSV season. By the time we get this done he will be 2+ years old. The whole cancer thing has me really scared...of course urology told me last week that some kids go until their teens undescended....go figure!!!! I will also have to get him circumsized at that time. Since he was 11 weeks premature, he did not have it done. Let me know how Cooper progresses with his post op course. BTW, how old is he now??

Cooper is doing great today. We have been out shopping and he has played most of the day. I appreciate all of you for the thoughts and prayers. Deanna, Cooper is almost 11 months old. He has an incision in the bend of his leg where the testicle was and then another incision on his scrotum. Looks kinda bad, but he has been really good today and not acted like he is in pain. The circumcision is ok, looks rough, very red and looks painful. This is only the 1st full day after, hopefully all will clear up soon. Thanks, Wendey
