I know in the past I have heard that our children need neck x-rays..... Erin needs one now or they won't let her trot on her horse. I am also worried because she loves to do somersaults.... I am feeling bad that I haven't done this before & am trying to STOP her sumeraulting until I know she is clear ! My question is: What exaclty is the "name of the problem" ? What do I tell the doctors to X-ray.... should I have results sent to DS CLinic at our hospital....who I haven't visited in a couple of years....should I let them make the appointment ? Or will someone local be just as knowledgable ? I could & should ask my peditricain all these questions... but again..... I don't know what you call the x-ray area & don't want to ramble on & on as I am doing here ! Thanks ! in advance for any & all help you can offer ! Allisa

Allisa,
The x-ray is for Atlantoaxial Instability. I just had Eric's done this May. You could ask your pediatrician to order this. It didn't take very long to do, and we did it at our local hospital. Eric's x-ray was fine. There is another post about this from about a month ago...if you scroll down, its on about page 3.

Allisa, Seems like there's always one more thing that we think we should have known, right? LOL. Relax girlfriend, you're the mom, not the doctor. This article has helped me schedule all the screenings that are recommended for kids with DS. www.dsrf.co.uk/Health_Issues/Health_guidelines1.htmI would just go ahead and schedule any of the things that were for "younger" ages that your doctor failed to mention to you. Make sure that you look at all of the pages that are included in this document. I printed one so that I always have it on hand. THis is the most recent one that I'm aware of.

Maggie just had hers done for the 3rd time! The first time the ding dong pediatrician we have ordered the wrong set of films. The 2nd time, they didn't the a clear shot for whatever reason and the 3rd time they said it was fine.
PTL! It's really hard holding that kid still for all those pictures! She hates it.
Take care.
