Last night we were in a retail park - like an outside mall - in north london near where we live. 200 yrds away there was a Mcdonalds. Stan saw the "golden arches" and started running towards it doing the makaton sign for ice cream. he fell over twice in his rush. nothing was going to stop him. Makaton works! www.makaton.org/

LOL... Stan and Harry's Dad...
Gotta add here that....
In Aus... We use Makaton...
For those in the US it is "Signing"....
Makaton being a System based on BrittishSL or AUSLan, and used as a "Keyword" signing system where we dont sign the whole sentence just a "keyword" to reinforce the meaning of the sentence.
After that .... Yaaaay Stanley!! And I am Soooooo lucky our nearest McDonalds is 500km away!!!

Signing was a big part of communication for us with Kourtney..Now she speaks and sometimes it is hard to understand her..Instead of using signs she will constantly repeat herself until we know what it going on.....That is great the Stanley used the sign for Ice Cream.....That would happen to be a weakness for me...And every kid deserves a little Mickey D's every once in a while...GOOD FOR STAN !!!!! ;D

So funny....and after I read this I took the kids out for a drive this evening and stopped for gas catty-corner to the McDonalds. And what does Meghan start yelling "eat" "eat" "Donalls" We eat there maybe once every few months, I think...so I was surprised at this...but I guess those yummy french fries really made an impression on her, LOL! anyways - WTG Stan!! laurie

Ethan's sensory issues mean that ice cream is not on his favorite list just yet, but he LOVES french fries, and it was one of his first dozen or so words. Last week when we were getting off the highway Ethan started saying "french fry", and Rod looked at me and said "What's he talking about? I don't see a McDonald's around here." I laughed and told him that Ethan had seen the blue sign as we exited the highway that gives directions to all of the fast food places at the exit, for instance, the sign will have the McD's symbol and show a left arrow and say .6 miles, and have Taco Bell, or whatever else is at that exit.
Soooo, I know that french fries are not the healthiest thing in the world, but I love letting him know that his words have POWER, so he gets them. LOL!

Ice Cream is best speech medicine! LOL Luke signs and says "Give me more ice cream, please". It is only one thing for which he can do a sentence. He can ask for "music" or "tape" but with out that "give me please".
