Ok, I haven't had the chance to post this but I had to come tell you all about Lauren's first day of school. With everything that happened to her in Texas I was hoping for a wonderful first day of K-Garten. Well, guess what...it stunk! I walked up to the school with her and started to look for her classroom. They had moved them from a beautiful large classroom last year to this VERY SMALL dark classroom in the corner. There were 8 children and 3 adults in the room. All I could think was is this 1960 when the Special Education children were thrown in the corner? I lost it. We insisted on the Director to come out and by schools end we had another classroom. I was so floored that the principal thought this was an appropiate place for our children. We had a 3 hour meeting with the Director yesterday and voiced our concerns. Looks like things should get better. WHY MUST WE FIGHT FOR EVERYTHING!! Our children deserve the best too.

Hi Renne', I'll tell you what I've discovered at my son's (not DS) High school yesterday at open house. The room for Math (it doesn't matter what subject) has a very big conditioner system which has terrible noise constantly. We had just a 10 minutes meeting with the teacher, and that was just awful. All parents asked her if she has to repeat her explanations due to the nose, and how she can work in this environment. She is so quiet person (not fighter), she said that she tried but they say there is no other room is available. Parents said that the principle should trade in his room with this one. That was a joke of us, but now we have to write a complain letter to. I have the same question: Why we need to fight for everything?

Update: When many parents make a complain it makes differences. Yesterday, I was surprised that my son had brought me a letter from school assistant principle that the problem is solved (they fixed the conditioner and it is no noise any more). That was so quickly.
Parents should be united!
Good luck

You have to fight to get what you want in life and that includes the kid's. Your children deserves the best education possible and that should include where they are educated and the condition's. Look at what Ricki has had to go through. (Sorry if misspelled your name.)

Renee, is this a self-contained class or a typical kindy class? Didn't you go and see the class prior to the IEP? Sorry to sound nosey, trying to get a feel for it all.
I ALWAYS look at my options for classrooms prior to IEP's... MONTHS before LOL... I am a planner like that.
I am sad they have the kids where they do and it upset you. Is that the only class option for Lauren?
A.

I AGREE with Alice, parents uniting gets much more done ;D
A ~ have to share girl that when Chris was in our public school in a special ed class with much mainstream I too always visited his class and such and thinking I knew what room he would be in at the end of June was SHOCKED to see where they changed the room during one summer come September. Sooo you never really know for sure till you walk in there in September.
WTG RENEE on getting the room chanaged ;D
You ask, why do we have to FIGHT, in my opinion SpEd is always the first to have cuts, be forgotten and MONEY is the main factor along with parents of the typical population not puttng up with what we do, just my opiniion.
CC ~

I was not able to see the class but it was "suppose" to be the same teacher and class as last year. They changed it at the last moment. We had another meeting and got a lot accomplished. Thank you all for your imput.
