You all have me in this computer room crying. Anyway, I too agree with everyone. I have 2 children who have DS and they have totally changed my life. It is unbelievable how much patience and tolerance I have learned, not to even mention love. And both my gems wake up smiling and laughing. They are just so happy. ;D And even after they are chastised, they love to hug and kiss you. The best thing about having children with DS are knowing they GOD chose you to take care of HIS beautiful Gems. And the blessings you will get in the next life because of it. And GOD is the Best of Rewarders. GOD is definitely The Greatest.
Mother of Jannah 11months and NAfiq 4yrs. old.

I cant belive I missed this, but Justin has been so sick.
I knew Justin would have DS at 32 weeks with him and he would have to have surgery right away, he was born not breathing and I only got to see his eyes for a very few minutes but what I saw in his eyes just melted my heart. The surgery was very long but went real good. Justin did 21 days in the NICU and the nurses said they could tell when I was there even before they saw me becasue Justin would start looking around as if he knew I had walked in the door. Justin is now 4 and still loves to get in my lap and wants mom to love on him and sign his song to him "Your are my Sunshine" I sang that to him every day in the NICU. He is my only birth child I have been step mom to Matthew since he was 3 and he would get in my lap for 2 seconds top but with Justin he will sit there tell I have to get up to go potty. I think now Im just rambling so Ill stop. Becky I love my boys so much and wouldnt trade either one for nothing in this world.

ROTFL Steve!
People comment on Ethan's beautiful eyes and perfect eyebrows ALL THE TIME! I am soooo not kidding! My girlfriends always comment that his eyebrows look as if they were drawn on by a master makeup artist!

Thank you so much for bumping this one up. I am new to this site (my son is 3 months today and I found out at birth about the ds) so I have only been learning about the world of ds for a short time. What an incredible post. I couldn't have needed a post like this more than I do tonight. I am sooo sick with the flu...therefore, I can't hold my son. His surgery was only a month ago, so we can't take any chances of him getting sick. So I miss my hugs and kisses of my kids.
In these 3 glorious months, I have cried plenty of tears (due to heart surgery last month) but my couragous, brave, beautiful son has put all my fears to rest. He has forever changed our lives for the better. I really enjoyed reading all the posts because I have soooo much to look forward to.
He just started swatting his toys, I even made a posting to share it all with you. Imagine that, the boy swatted a toy and it was like Christmas morning. All the excitement, I made 20 phone calls to tell everyone. He amazes me everyday and I feel so blessed to be his mommy.
PS..I read alot about sleeping......my little one came home from the hospital sleeping through the night (although we had to wake to feed him). I thought after surgery that would change..but it hasn't. He eates so much during the day..the docs gave us the ok to let him sleep through the night!!

ok...I LOVE this post.
Having 4 children, I can tell you that having a child with DS has changed our lives for the better. Andrew has brought our family closer together. We ALL rejoice when he learns something new. For example, Andrew has learned how to pull himself up on almost anything he can reach. Just this past week he has started to let go and can stand for a few seconds all on his own. Since my 2 older boys went back to school last week they were not here to see him do this. So .... here I am folding laundry upstairs when I hear all this yelling from downstairs. My 2 older boys are yelling and screaming and all I can make out is Andrew's name. So I ditch the laundry and go running downstairs at full speed thinking something is wrong. I no sooner got to the bottom stair when my boys came running over to me with their eyes soooo big and all excited that they saw Andrew stand for a few seconds all by himself.
Now mind you, they have a younger sister so they have "been there done that" before. But Andrew has shown us how to rejoice in the "little things" in life. He has also taught us how to look at things differently and not take things for granted. Not only has he taught this to my other children but he has also taught myself and my husband this amazing lesson. I honestly don't think we would ever have learned all this on our own.
Andrew has also opened up a whole new world for us in other ways. We have met THE MOST AMAZING people because of our little Andrew. People will stop me in the supermarket or at the bank and tell me stories of someone they know with DS. I love hearing them all.
I have learned so much from all the different people I have met lately. Especially the people right here on uno-mas. I feel blessed to be a part of such a great adventure, and I owe it all to my little man Andrew. Thank you Andrew!!! -Trisha
