sports, daddy and me, Russell readiness

Hey, I keep reading these neat posts on your kids and doing sports. I go to another site and read about it also. It must be soccer season LOL. I am not trying to make this a pity party, but I WISH Russell was REALLY REALLY ready for this stuff. I know, like Connie said, that they have 1:1's and things like that, but really, Russell isn't ready yet.

Kevin and I were talking just a bit ago tonight about this stuff, Daddy and me stuff and something going on at Russell's school. They are having a Daddy and ME pumpkin event on the same sat that Reece's bday party is suppose to be, next month. I was REALLY sad for Kevin. Other then the Little Gym we did last year, where Kevin took Russell to because I was so sick all the time, Kevin has NEVER experienced the typical sports or Daddy-Son things. And I don't think we will do the Little Gym again this year. Although it was well worth it, it was a bit pricey. It really makes me sad for them. Kevin does things with the girls more then Russell because of what he is and isn't capable of yet. they DO wrestle lots though LOLOL. But I was telling Kevin about the pumpkin daddy and me deal with the kindy class that russell integrates with and Kevin looked so sad. It really makes me sad too. Ok.. so maybe I AM having a bit of a pity party. LOL

Kevin has enjoyed SO much watching Regan when she was younger and doing sports.. soccer, horse back riding, ect... they tend to bond over it more than I do with her... but I feel my husband is missing out with that "male" bonding thing with Russell. And from the look on Kevin's face tonight, I think he was feeling that way too...

I know that one day Russell will be more ready for this, I sure hope so! I just long to see Kevin fishing, playing ball, soccer, ect.. with Russell. Daddy loves his girls, don't get me wrong, but there is something between a dad and his son that Kevin really hasn't experienced yet.

Your kids are the same age as Russell and doing all these sports... so I hope Kevin will get that too with him some day...

Awwwww A~ Pity Parties are allowed here, we ALL have had them one time or another. Ramble on all you want girl I surely do and it helps me tons

K, I hope I word this right, cause sometimes I have trouble getting out what I mean, imagine that LOL

This is just my opinion and you can ignore it totally if it doesn't do anything for you, just brainstorming here for you.

Colin was the one to sign Chris up for all the sports things, soccer, T-Ball, Basketball, skiing and such way before, I thought he was ready, BUT I do beleive thats what got Chris wanting to try. Doesn't matter how well they do just that they do and have fun, least thats what I think. Here we have what is called "Club Fun" just for ones with special needs which consists of soccer, bowling and Hmmm I forget the third thing, it was a while ago Chris went to that. Anywho the point being any and all kids with whatever special needs could take part. It was very cool to see the kids watch the others and try what they might not have tried. Do you KWIM??

Colin took Chris skiing way before I thought he was ready but he took him to a speacil needs ski group area and they literally can get any one with any special needs skiing.

I guess what I am trying to say is I don't know what your area offers but my bet there are things that Russell and Kevin could take part in Colin and Chris tried all and some were just not right but others worked out GREAT.

K, I hope I made some kind of sense here for you. I say just sign up for stuff and see what Russell might enjoy and my bet is Kevin and he will have a blast as Colin and Chris do ;D

Just wanted to share that many of these things we have had Chris join were things that included all kids with all needs

Courtney is 10 and this is her first thing to ever do.....

Bad Mommy....I have sheltered her because she has been soooo small. Can we say OVERPROTECTIVE?

I love ya! He's young! He has plenty of time....Couldn't he do horse back riding though? We have a great ranch here....kids with cerebal palsey ride....

Courtney just started that this past year. I am sorry she missed out on it for all these years, but she loves it now!

Funny this post just came up... I was debating on putting in a dance class the school...they learn Jazz, Ballet and tapand then do a performance at the theatre in town in the spring. Emily did it last year and loved it...so I am gonna try Katie this year with the younger kids. My momeven was able to find her a toddler tutu and some ballet and tap shoes in kids size 6. I thought, if I learned the routines, I could work with her all week so that on Tues she may have retained something.

Whats the worst that could happen? We have to drop out? I will let you know how it goes.

Awww A~I'm sure it must be hard on Kevin. But like you say, I'm sure Russell will be ready to do sports, it just may be a couple of years down the road still. We haven't enrolled Patrick in anything yet, but after seeing Claire play soccer I think we will try to get him in in the spring.

And can I just say, Cathy, I would pay money to see you learning the tap routines and practicing with Katie!!!Can your mom find a tutu in your size? ;D
