Hey Everyone -- Thought I would pop in and give a quick update on Evan. He has been doing very well, he is starting to walk with the aid of a walker and is growing like a weed. He weighs close to 18lbs and is 30.5 inches long. His pediatrician has scheduled him for the RSV shot again this year, he is not taking any chances and has convinced my insurance company to continue to provide this vital shot. With his weight getting up there the cost of the shots this year will be around $3000.00:o per month and he gets it October through April, thankfully we have good insurance. He stays so healthy during the winter months with the shot that it was comforting to know he was going to get it again this year. He has started a new allergy medicine from Benadryl (not OTC), called Dytan and it is working great. He was on Zyrtec but it gave him bad mood swings, when we mentioned this to his Ped. he said there is something in the antihistamine in Zyrtec that causes mood swings in young kids (his ENT started him on Zyrtec not his regular pediatrician), guess we should have checked with him first I have posted a couple of new pictures of him in the October folder of the photo album. Have a great weekend Clint

Hi!! I noticed Evan is close to Lexy's age and I didn't realize there was allergy meds for there age group. What kind of symtoms does Evan have? Lexy really is nasily but I think that is common, so I didn't know if allergy meds would help her. She seems worse at night. I have terrible allergies, so I wouldn't be surprised if she will too. Just wondering....

Wow, Evan is getting so big!!! I am glad they are giving him the RSV shots again.. I wish WE had those shots for Russell. He has RSV his first year and it took him almost a year to fully recover... and YEAH for your insurance to pay for the shots too! A.

What a handsome man! And thank God he is doing well. My best wishes for your family.
I wanted to relay a couple of things we did when our son was little. I hope I am not repeating things you have already posted about Evan. If so, I apologize.
I used Ayr drops and that rubber bulb syringe thing (that is used to suction out the baby's mouth when he is born) to keep our son's nose clear at all times. He never had any bronchitus or pneumonia when he was an infant. My very unscientific theory was that if I kept his nose clear, no mucous would be diverted to his lungs because I was removing it as soon as it got to his nose. He did have many sets of ear tubes.
PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR BABIES WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR!
Has Evan been tested for milk allergies? Just a thought. I have a friend whose son with Ds battled the respiratory stuff for 4 years. She finally changed ENTs and the second Doc sent him to an allergist the same day. They took him off milk and he was cured. Every time he gets a hold of a milk product, the green stuff starts pouring from his nose.
Secondly, I had our duct work cleaned to help with my allergies. I also bought a permanent heppa filter for my furnace which is washed out once a month. You might also consider an electronic air cleaner. The cleaning of the duct work helped me dramatically along with vaccuming under the bed and taking the bed apart and dusting every bit of the bed with a damp cloth. It is amazing how much dust clings to the underside of a bed and mattress.
Another possibility would be to replace the crib mattress as dust mites like to live there. I do not know what kind of allergies Evan has, but all of these things certainly helped me with my allergies.
Best of luck,
MB

The synagis shot helps protect from RSV, upper respiratory infection that causes lots of problems with breathing and usually leads to about a week in the hospital, and in worst cases can lead to death. Evan qualified for it because he was born more than 5 weeks premature and had congenital heart disease. We thought that we would only qualify for the first year but our Dr. has been able to qualify him every year. It is a great shot, and it to date it has kept Evan very healthy through the yucky winter month germs. The shot is measured by weight, Evan is almost 18lbs so he gets a shot in both legs this year. The shots are about 1300.00 each...and they have to send a home nurse to the house to administer the shot. As for allergies, Evan shows all the same signs as you and I, runny nose, water eyes, itchy nose, itchy eyes. He was on Dytan last week and it is working great, it is not affecting his moods and seems to keep his allergies at bay for now. MB, we have never tested him for milk allergies that may be something to look into, he doesn't drink a lot of milk, right now his drink of choice is pediasure (I wish it was milk, a lot cheaper), but it is still lactose based so that could be an issue. Thanks for all the input, I am glad you all enjoyed the pictures, I need to see if I can get a picture of his "Crawl" more like a frog hop, he sits to one side tucks his legs under his butt and bounces forward. If I could find a way to make a diaper that didn't wear from the carpet burn I would be rich . Have a good week Clint

Nothing worse than the rug burned diaper ;D hmmmm how about a pair of those plastic pants they used with cloth diapers but if all else fails there is always duct tape a few strips across the bottom and Mr. Evan is off lol. Also as for the allergies we all have them here right down to Mr. Justin we have the allergen mattress covers and pillow covers that help a great deal too, as well as the special filter for the furnace. Ok lets all cross our fingers for a dry nosed season

Well, I had to pop in on this. Justin is now 20 mos old. He had gotten the Synagis also. Being that he was a 29 weeker at birth, LBW due to the momo thing, also has BPD, laryngolmalacia, and tracheomalacia. I BEGGED pulm for another round this year of the Synagis. She said....no brainer....he gets it, especially since he is still on O2. Now, for the math....don't want to. Justin was 31 lbs at the last wt check. I remember the $3000.00 a month last season. Can't imagine what it will be this year!!! LOL!!! But multiply that number for the months Oct thru April. Yikers!!! Amen for the fact it works. Flu shots also going around this coming week for all our family!!
