Posted this on another board and am getting mixed messages on this. Betty got the RSV shot her first year of life and last year, she will be 2 yrs. old in November and am wondering when the cut off age is for this, does anybody know I know, here in Illinois, if she does get it this year, I need to get on the ball with it, it needs to be ordered from the pharmacy that makes it and then ships it to the doctor, but we got to get the okay from our insurance to, which can take a bit. Betty has been very healthy from day one, and I just want it to stay this way. I like to make sure I stay on top of everything that will keep her healthy, know what I mean. (I'm not a worry wart, okay maybe just a little) LOL !!

Evening all;
Eric had the RSV injections (Synagis), for 2 years. I think thats the time frame to receive the vaccine.. up to 2 years of age. Thats when kids are at the highest risk for the disease. Dolly

I think they stop the Synagis injections around 2 years of age. Justin has gotten it 2 seasons so far. He was a 29 week preemie and has chronic lung disease from the ventilator. BECAUSE of this, he is getting it again this year. I asked his new pulm Doc at the last appt if we could get it again this year....she said it was a no-brainer because he is still on O2. I have heard, and correct me if I am wrong, that children with lung disease and heart disease are allowed to get it longer if they meet the criteria. I hope this helps. We already ordered our series....I think I should be getting a call to start giving him his injections very soon.

Hey Everyone
Evan will be getting his RSV shots for the Third year. He got them when he was born (premature) last year because of his heart surgery and this year because of the flue vaccine scare and his size. His pediatrician said there is not really a cut of date or number of years they receive the shot it is normally based on health and growth.
Because Evan is still small for his age, although he is in good health, his medical conditions in the past, and the shortage of the flu vaccine his Pediatrician has started his RSV again this year. Most insurances will pay for the shot as long as it is referred and set-up through your pediatrician. We were suprised that he was going to get it again this year, but glad because when he gets his shots during the winter months he stays very healthy.

Got the call this morning from Betty's doctor's nurse. She said Betty will not be getting the RSV shot this year and that the cut off age is 2 years. old. I went back and looked at Ian's medical records and he got the shot till he was 3 yearsl old. HMMMMMMM . We have new doctors. So I'm gonna have a little chat with the doctor and see what he has to say. I would hate not to get it again and have Betty end ill.

Jeanette, A friend of mine went thru this same thing last year. Her little boy is nearing 3 now. They were not going to order the Synagis last year. I can't remember if fhe switched docs or what. Turns out the doc could have been more *aggressive* with getting the insurance to approve it. They got it approved very easily with the help of another doc. Her little boy is not as fragile as Justin is. He did have open heart surgery as a small baby, but has no serious resp issues. Since they were able to get it.....maybe you could *persuade* your doc to be a little more aggressive. I hope they can get it ordered for you. Just be loud....squeaky wheel.....

My daughter recieved them for only 2 years... we were told that after that time, any scare of RSV is gone and they should be strong enought to fight it as a common cold. However, I would inquire... I know our peditrician had to really petition the insurance company to pay for it.... it is very expensive...$1500 PER shot, I believe and as I recall...she got 3-4 shots per season. If your doc & insurance feel she doesn't need it, inquire about the flu vaccine.... i know some think it is unecessary, but Erin has gotten one every year and knock on wood...she's been fine. I get it for my 2 biys as well.... though this year I guess there are shortages & missing supplies. Not sure what that story is. Hoping you have a HEALTHY season !
