I just remembered that tonight's extreme makeover home edition is about the camp for special children. It looks like a real kleenex story. Its on for two hours... 7pm- 9pm.
On a another note, the Extreme Makeover team is in our area...about 10 miles from where we live...they are building a house for a Dad and his three little girls...)ages 5, 7, and 6 months.) Their Mother died on Mother's day (this past year) after the birth of her last child. She had a pulmonary embolism at home. She was 27 years old. It seems the last program she watched before going to bed that night was Home Makeover...her favorite show. She made a comment to her hubby while climbing up the stairs to bed about how much she would love to be on the show...very sad story. Her hubby and her were both teachers. The oldest daughter and her friend sent a letter in to the show...and they were picked. Very bitter-sweet for the family. They tore down the old house on Friday, and the family comes back this Wednsday. My daughter and I are going to the site tomorrow. Maybe we'll get to see some of the designer's. I love Ty, but my favorite is Paul..the "older" guy with the glasses. He just seems to have a big heart, especially for kids. I think the segment will air around Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the reminder Dolly. Was this family featured in a People magazine article? I remember reading a story in the past recent months about a young mother who died during (or soon after) child birth and it was their third child.
Yup, it's going to be a kleenex episode.

Jessie,
I'm not sure about the people article. She died just after coming home from the hospital.

Did anyone watch the show last night? Very moving....what a wonderful special needs camp! I would love to send Eric there some day...Camp Barnabus in Missouri. The kids were wonderful!! And the family was very deserving of the makeover. They had sacrificed everything to keep this camp going. I cried for the whole 2 hour show!!.........even hubby was choked up. I love this show!!

Yes, it was a great story! Very special people there.
As for the house, me and Brian were both drooling over the kitchen - it was gorgeous!

This was one of my favorites! I know, Dolly, I was telling my husband "I can't WAIT til Aidan can go to Camp Barnabus!" LOL And...we live only 30 minutes away from Purdy! Yeah! I don't think this couple was in People, but I think I know the couple you are thinking about. The couple in People had several children and then adopted, like, 24 children with special needs, most of them with DS. They were in People because they had applied to be on Home Makeover and Home Makeover declined them saying their family was too big, etc. I don't remember all of the reasons. So, this family that was in People, their friends, family and community were doing their "own" home makeover for them! They were raising money and trying to get donations so they could build a new home! I hope they do get their new home...they are definitely deserving, also! Can you imagine having, like, 26 kids, most of them with Down syndrome? MAN! What a wonderful thing to do...I can't imagine...I can't even keep up with my 2 kids! LOL Staci

I just watched the EM from last night.. I had TIVO'd it. I cry EVERY week anyway but it was VERY moving and an VERY awesome episode! What these people do for others in general is just so moving.. but what they do with kids w/spec needs is amazing.. the things to make the lives of the spec needs population easier just astounds me!

The young father and his daughters from our town will be back home on Wednesday... I'm off that day so we're planning on going out to the site. Hopefully we can hear them say "MOVE THAT BUS"!! Its very exciting having the Extreme Team here...we don't get much good news in our area ( our local Delphi Packard Plant has filled bankruptcy...its our 4th largest employer in our valley...don't know what will happen to jobs here). Here's to Ty and the rest of the gang!!

I had the greatest night watching it on our tvo too. OMG talk about tears. I think it's amazing that millions of people out there are going to see this and maybe think twice before they stare of help an organization such as this one. Talk about waterworks and the people who do the making over could see a HUGE impact on them as well. I LOVE IT... There is a family here in in the South Bay that the lady from our dsala who runs it Gail knows and they were featured on a show like this I missed it. They have adopted 20 some odd foldks with MAJOR disbilities. I did remember Gail telling me that they sent the couple away for a 2 week getaway. Now those 2 needed a vacation. They I believe were in People magazine once. Could this be who you guys were talking about?

Monique.... I agree... absolutely worth the trip to see Ty!!! LOL!!!!!!!! Dolly.... take a camera and snap a pic or 2 or 3 or 4 of Ty for all of us! LOL! Have fun! -Trisha

OMGosh! I cried for the 2 hours as well minus the commercials. My boys know by now not to make fun of mommy crying while watching EHM.
My oldest kept saying how awesome it would be for Alethea to go to camp there. My thoughts were more along the lines of how awesome it would be for my older children to volunteer there one day and then to have Alethea volunteer there one day too! How cool would it be to have our entire family go to Camp Barnabus and volunteer together for a week or two!

Loved this episode! Scott and I were crying the whole time and the kids just loved it too. ( I think the only time I wasn't crying was when Ty took his shirt off for the photo shoot!!! )
Valarie--I too was thinking when can my kids go and volunteer and Kaylee was watching saying "I want to go to camp! NO FAIR MOM!!" ;D
