I'm thinking about purchasing the "Love and Learning" videos for our little guy for Christmas.
Have any of you used "Love and Learning"? If so, would you recommend them for a 3 1/2 year old who LOVES Signing Times?
I'll apologize now if this topic has already been discussed, I did an Uno search and not much came up.

Dawn~ This topic has come up before, but it's a GREAT topic so that's a good thing!! Love and Learning is WONDERFUL if you ask me!!!!! I firmly believe it is responsible for the fact that my daughter has always LOVED to read and continues to read for FUN......not as a chore. She started at around 3 years old and totally amazed us by how quickly she learned. I'm not familiar with the Signing Times videos, but I would say that they would be teaching kids to remember various signs........the same type of memory skills are used with learning to read. The program is VERY basic and simple. I think that is why it works so well! My ONLY complaint with it is the fact that the books are made out of regular paper and can easily be destroyed by kids. Because of that, we were very careful to always hold Emily in our lap and read the books with her rather than to let her just read them on her own. And really......I think that is one reason she looked forward to it. It only takes 5-10 minutes a day to read the books and the videos or DVD's and audio tapes can be done however often you want. We loved it! Emily was very very successful with reading at an early age, and I think that encouraged her to not get frustrated with it and to develop a distaste for reading. The programs are a bit pricey, but we felt it was well worth the cost.

I would not repeat Susan - she has said well enough! That is great topic - my favorite! "...would you recommend them for a 3 1/2 year old..." YES, YES, and YES! You will amazed of the result! Also, I would recommend to buy DVD not tapes. Our tapes are used so many times are almost destroyed and we are going to buy again on DVD, because Luke loves them and uses them all the time. It is so funny and wonderful to hear from him: "I see a hooorse" by reading the words on TV. It warms my heart! It will be a wonderful present for the Christmas! ;D

We never did the SIgning Time videos - but we LOVE L&L around here! Meghan knew her ABCs etc at a very early age...earlier than most typical kids! I'd recommend starting with just the first kit - instead of investing in more than one - just to see how you like it. Let us know! laurie

Ditto on all of the above! We have used these tapes (replaced with DVDs) for 2 1/2 years now, and they are great. Definitely worth the money. We found that the more mobile Cole got, the less he was interested in watching the videos, but when he was not walking or crawling (which seemed like forever), he would totally focus on them, and was recognizing many of the words in the books consistently. Nowadays, we put them in in the car, when he is strapped in and has nowhere else to go!

Yep, I have heard that they are VERY good also! And it certainly wouldn't hurt to start early. The earlier the better, as far as I'm concerned.

I have never heard of Love and Learning, I went on the web site, and I e-mailed Joe and ask for some information, and he got back to me pronto, and is sending me a free DVD, I was really concerned if Jordan was to old since it seems like they get more out of it from birth to 3 years. I wish I would of known about it sooner. It seems like he will still learn alot from the program, from what I can see. I'am thankful that the topic has been brought up again

Sharon, That reminded me........ last Spring, I was looking for ways to help improve Emily's comprehension of what she reads. Since she had learned to read so many years ago with Love and Learning, I emailed Joe and asked if he had any suggestions. What did he do??? The following evening, he called me and gave me GREAT suggestions on the phone. He gave me an update on his daughter Maria and encouraged me to use the free crossword puzzles for her on the Love and Learning site. He and his wife are wonderful people........committed to helping kids learn to read. (We met them in Michigan when Emily was 4 and we bought her second set of tapes/books.) If anyone buys the programs and needs anything, I know the Kotlinski's will be willing to help!!!

Susan, we have the first set of Love & Learning, and Nicholas does read some of the words in the books. I got so excited reading your post, I was sitting here making a list of pictures to take to make him his own book! ;D And I think I'm going to start labeling things, too! Those are great ideas!
If you have any more, let us know!!

We bought L & L for Peanut, but my son James, who is Apraxic at 2 1/2 loves it too! He says his abc's and repeats the words. Peanut also loves to watch the movies and is totally involved in it. The tapes are great and so are the books. I highly recommend it. They do have money available to help fund it check out their website.

I love L&L. We have the 1st 3 sets. We had bought the 1st set when Russell was about 3. Although he doesn't get out of it what most kids do... he did enjoy it. I was concerned that it not being ELMO he wouldn't like it.. but he loved it. Unfortunately that was way before the Autism DX and he also was still legally blind at the time.. so I didn't see the results I was hoping for.. but that is ok. Reece was 1 yr old at the time and MAN... she took OFF with that stuff.. .I credit that L&L with her speech and reading.. she was speaking fluently by 18 months with a great vocabulary and sight reading.. ALL From the L&L.. so I just think it's a great basic tool for ANY child!!!!
We (MIL actually) just ordered the 1st 3 of the Signing Times for Russell for xmas this year. We haven't tried any of that stuff yet but we think it's time. He is really paying attention more to the signs and stuff...

Dawn..
I posted the same question about 4 months ago. Go to page 37 and you will see Education: Love and Learning. Sounds like you are going to order already. I was going to order for my daughter, but she passed away last month. Good luck with it!!
