Hi Dolly..long time no chat!!! I cant believe Eric is 5!!! Where does the time fly? I communicate every day with Chase's aide via a notebook I send in every day as well as a schedule paper we made up so I would know what Chase does every day at all times. The notebook comes home with the paper as well and little notes are put in along side the activity he was doing at that time, letting me know if he did well or not and basically how he did. If Eric doesnt have a one on one aide i would insist the teacher take a moment to write what Eric did and how well his day went, especially wiht him not being verbal yet....you have the right to that at the very least. Maybe you could just send in a notebook wiht a note to her asking for her cooperation and explainging why it's important. BTW...it is important for you to know about his day so you can talk to him about it, whether he speaks or not, communication is important for him. Good luck, and hugs to you both, Robin

My two boys, Nicky DS age 18, and Ryan Fragile X age 9, are both non verbal so home/school books are essential. Their teachers write in them every day with a longer message on Fridays, they also e mail me at times. Every Monday morning I write in the book and illustrate them with photos and graphics of what we have done over the weekend so the books can be passed around to their class mates and they can also see what we have been doing. It might just be something simple like a photo of Ryan eating his lunch in a restaurant, we went to the Zoo last week so there were lots of pictures of the boys and some graphics of the animals. When they went to the dentist last week I found a graphic of a dentist. Their teachers always tell me I spend far more time with the books than any other parents who might just write a line or two but never add photos etc. and the look forward to reading them every Monday . I also write in the week if there is something I need to share with school. I have kept every book that Nicky has had since he started in Nursery school so they are a good record of his life. Wow Pauline!!! That is an awesome idea! In the same way that our kids don't come home and tell us all the details of their school day, they aren't sharing their weekend experiences with their friends and teachers either. And, I have heard teachers say that on Monday morning it's hard to get the attention of the class because everyone is buzzing about their weekend. So it's wonderful that you make sure your boys' teachers know about how your kids spend time when they are not at school! I have occasionally written a quick note if there might be a reason Emily is more tired than usual (out of town for the weekend and got home late, etc) and have sent a few pics of vacation fun when she goes back to school in the Fall.......but nothing like you are talking about. I know your son's teachers must love it!!!
Dolly~ Maybe if you were to tell the teacher how very important it is for you to know what Eric is doing at school and you started adding to his notebook about his days at home, it would really encourage the teacher to do a better job!

Pauline & CC - LOVE the picture idea!!! I will have to add this into Jason's folder on Monday morning. We do so much stuff on the weekends with him and he doesn't ever get to share that with other people, so this would help a ton.
Thanks for offering those suggestions!!!
