Hi Everyone,
Ava was finally diagnosed with a hearing disorder. She has a mild to moderate hearing loss in her right ear and a moderate loss in her left ear. It has only taken 6 years and a ton of ABR's to conclude this. Anyway, I was wondering if any knows of a program that could help financially with the cost of hearing aids. My health care does not cover the cost AT ALL. Ava will probably need a new hearing aid as she grows every year and the cost was estimated from 1000.00 to 3000.00 for the type of aid she needs. From her glasses, to speech therapy to her heart medication this is getting really expensive and I am starting to feel the crunch. So, if anyone could please let me know if there is an agency that might be able to assist I would be so grateful! We live in Massachusetts if that helps. Thanks everyone and oh - you all are the best! Have a wonderful day! Shan- Mum to Ava Elizabeth (6)

Hmmmm not being from you area, I don't know of any organizations that could help BUT I wanted to share that my little Character who is 12 now ALSO has mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears and we got hearing aides for him 2 years ago. We got the digital kind and so far have not needed new ones, I do believe only the ear mold part will be needed as they grow Not 100% sure on that BUT what I have been told and as I said Chris has has them for 2 years now and has not needed a change. This summer will be 3 years and he will be checked to see if the ear mold part will need to be redone. Hmmm hope that made sense to you We were lucky and the aides cost over $3,000.00 and same here health ins. did not pay a dime toward them BUT between two local organizations the complete cost was covered ;D Any chance you guys have the Elks Club in your area, they Love to help our kids CC ~

There are some heraing centers around here that work on a sliding scale - maybe there are some around you as well? You could always call the old EI people and ask who they use. They can usually help direct you to find funding, even after your child ages out. Good luck! That is one heck of a lot of money every year!

Shan,
The Jimmy Fund used to help out with this kind of stuff. It's been a long time since I moved from the Beantown area so I don't know if they still do. We're talking almost 17 yrs since I left! I grew up in Cambridge and am really looking forward to the week we have planned in August to visit all my family there!
Good luck!

Hi , I live on cape cod and and we deal with the Kennedy Donovan Center. The DMR of mass allocates funds for thing just like this through either ARC or places like the Kennedy donovan Center. I'm not sure who deals with this in Boston. If you call the DMR in Mass I'm sure they could direct you. On Average I think the yearly allocation is about 200.00 but sometimes alot Higher. My Little Lexi is 6 also! Good luck ! Lexis Mom

Hi Everyone! I knew I could count on you all! Thank you all so much for the wonderful information and "tips" I am going to try every avenue and see what I can come up with! For all you in and around Massachusetts, if you ever want to get the kiddies together let me know, Ava would LOVE to meet up with you!! I would also like to go to an "Uno" Outingin another part of the country, but I have two other little ones and a new baby on the way in August, so it is hard to get out and about. Maybe one day Thanks again for all your help! Shannon

I'm in CA and my son has hearing aids too. All of the costs are picked up from the state for us - thank God - because he's only 4 months old and is already on his 2nd pair. Perhaps MA has some assistance programs that could help out. Good luck.
