Hippotherapy....maybe I should post this seperately but...at what age can a child start this? I haven't checked into this at all but there are so many horse farms and riding stables around here that one of them has to do this. I think this is a great therapy. Andrew had an MRI not too long ago and they said they were also checking his neck, for AAI. Would this cover him? Or would he still need the x-ray?

In our area there are two centers that do hippotherapy, and at both of them the kids have to be three years old. I bet it might vary in each area, though. Our doctor said he would sign off on the AAI release without the xray, and the center here accepted it, so I guess it would depend on what you and your doctor are comfortable with and what the center would accept. I would think that an MRI would show what they were looking for, especially since they told you they were also checking AAI, so I would think you're covered!!

Kristin, Christopher was 4 years old for his first set of neck X-rays and there were no restraints used. Hmm maybe places do it different I don't know, only can say how it was for us. WOW I am kinda surprised your Doc would sign off that its OK without X-rays, seems like he could be setting him self up for trouble if there were problems, KWIM. BUT hey if your OK with it then thats all that matters Its not just the falling off the horse, the body bouncing around on the horse is a worry BUT only if there was a neck problem. Chris was 5 when he started the horse therapy and has done it for the last 8 years and personally I highly recommend it for any that are interested CC ~

I know I'm coming in late on this, but I just wanted to mention to CC that Paige has had 2 sets of C Spines - one at 18 mos b/c she was rocking on her neck and they were concerned about stability and one at age 5 - neither time did they use a papoose board and neither time was it traumatic for her. Maybe it is by location how they do it - I'm in PA and you're in NJ, I noticed Kristin is in Colorado. Also, neither of the places in here would take her without the xrays for "legal purposes" - maybe we're more "suit happy" over here on the East Coast. Is a great thing though - I'd recommend it to anyone.
