I post this in hesitation...
We just found lice on Alethea. I searched my family high and low. I asked anyone she came in close contact with and nobody else has them.
So where did she get them? My closest guess...the snow hat I bought for her at Target about 7-10 days ago.
Can I say...I am disgusted and itchy and I FEEL little bugs crawling all over my body. They aren't there, but arghhhhhhhh!!!
The internet is so comforting in informing me that lice like clean hair. OK that makes me feel so much better!!!

Valerie,
We just had "them" visit our house about 3 weeks ago.....And man, I know how you feel! It seems a classmate of Eric's had them, and Eric's coat and hat hung right beside the affected child, so wha-la...they hitched a ride to our house. Eric's hair was very long, so it was difficult to treat him...so I buzzed his hair. Not my favorite look for him, but it will grow back. The hard part is cleaning all the house, washing sheets, blankets, bagging stuffed animals, etc. And don't forget the car...spray carseats, regular seats, etc. I treated everyone in the family, even thought they didn't have it. (my little granddaughter, Tori, was the only one who picked up the critters in her hair). And you may have to treat Alethea again, cuz it may not work the first time. And its true they like clean hair... I think my hubby and I didn't get them because we use hair spray and gel...the lice don't like that. So " goop up" ! Good Luck!

Awwwwwww Valerie, I'm so sorry to hear that! It's so much WORK for the mommy when this happens........all the laundry and shampooing, etc. What a pain in the fanny! I agree that lice tend to love clean hair........so much easier to "hang on", rather than "slip sliding away" on oily or hairsprayed hair.
Good luck, Susan

Ugggghhhh.........One of my neighbor's daughter had this a few years ago. We were supposed to go out for a "girls night out" right before we moved. She called me 2 hours before we were supposed to go out...in tears! She said her daughter had lice and she had to spend the night cleaning everything. I feel so bad for you. And you're right...lice like clean hair. I hope this goes away very quickly for you. ummmmm...yeah.......I'm sitting here itching my head now!!! Good luck!!

Valerie, My heart is crying for you right now. We went through this last fall with my daughter. I was sitting on the floor pulling her white/blonde hair back and noticed something that I thought moved. Started looking closer and there were several things moving on her head. GROSS!!! To make a very very long story short...it took us 3 weeks and 2 treatments to get rid of it. I had to treat everything!!!. But, on the bright side. None of my boys caught those little cridders and neither did me or my DH....a very very good thing. I found that yes they really do like clean hair and because my boys have such short hair they really didn't like that either. Hugs, it will get better. Connie

One Sunday, we were sitting in church and my older daughter had her head in my lap. I was stroking her hair when I noticed something moving. I told her that I thought she had a bug in her hair. It turned out that she had lots of bugs in her hair. I tried not to freak out but quickly evacuated her head off my lap. Poor kid! I was trying not to make a scene during the sermon. I was so paranoid and checked her hair for weeks after we got rid of the lice. It was an experience I hope we will never have to repeat. Chris

That's awful!!!! When I was much, much younger my cousin had wanted me to stay the night at her house. Well, they had all just got over having lice and my mom was very hesitant about letting me stay as they are not really the cleanest people on earth either! Anyway, after begging she gave in and let me stay. Guess who came home with lice the next day?! I have always had long, thick hair and my dear mother sat and picked out everything from my hair - she was not a happy momma at that point!! Yuck. Jessie

Someone in Hannah's school class had them so going on the "they only go for clean hair" theory I never washed her hair for 2 weeks!!
it worked, she never did get them!!
