Question...are any of your kids ADDICTED to TV? If I would let him, Eric would watch video's and kids shows 24-7! As soon as he wakes up, he pops "the Wiggles" video in while he eats breakfast. And he gets SOOOOO mad if you get in his way, or heaven forbid...you turn it off. I only let him watch children's programming, but man, he never quits! I knew I was in trouble last week when we had some new laminate floor instaled in our living room. We had to UNPLUG and move the tv/cable/dvd for a WHOLE day...we found him in the dining room sitting in front of the disconnected TV, pushing buttons , and getting quite upset with the blank screen! Yikes...down to the playroom with the lad (tv free zone). I was just wondering if any of your kids are "ADDICTED" also.

LOL.....I am in the opposite boat....Erin (6) wants NOTHING to do with TV....and being the bad momma I am....l wish I could just have ONE show that she LOVED so I could have peace and quiet for a half hour !! Or longer !! The Wiggles is as close as she gets.....likes the music, but even that will only "hold" her for 10 minutes max !! On the bright side....I bet your house is a lot cleaner than mine !! Erin spends her non-TV watching time trashing my house !

Our tv is tuned to Noggin, Disney or PBS from the time Sarah wakes up until she goes to bed! My husband is the guilty party since he sits with her and WATCHES it, too. We also have a ton of dvd's (Signing Time, Wiggles, Sesame Street, Kidsongs, Baby Songs, and any other signing dvd ever made!). I guess I let it go since she watches almost all educational stuff and she dances to the music dvds.
She still trashes the house while watching tv or dvds. She can dump out and throw every toy she owns, take off all the couch cushions, tear apart my newpaper or magazine and dump her sippy cup of water all over the living room during my bathroom break. So Allisa's theory about tv addicts making less of a mess doesn't hold!
Chris
PS.....how could I forget that she also takes off all her clothes when going on her tear the house apart binge!

Does having about 300 movies count as being a TV addict? LOL Jason loves to do other things, but watching movies/TV is top priority. He has his favorites and we can tell what he is watching by his activity - during Kangaroo Jack he "raps" like they do. It's too funny. Lion King - he turns into Elton John and sings along. The up side is that he can figure out any DVD/VHS player without being shown how to do it. His TV in his room has a DVD player and then we have a regular VHS player hooked up - he can switch between cable, a DVD or a VHS tape without help. We just got a new vehicle with DVD players in it and he jumped in and just started one of them up without any assistance from us. While he doesn't trash anything, he loves to be in his whitey tighties and nothin' else (only when he's in his room . . . we don't let him de-robe in the vehicle!).

Moving has cut down on the addiction a bit....a new routine I think. Last week though, JT would wake up signing "shrek" and spend most of the day signing "shrek" and/or watching it. During the move he has found "blues clues" and enjoyed that.

Unfortunately, add Ethan to the list of addicts. I was guilty of letting him watch quite a bit after the baby was born because I was nursing all the time, and then when I had surgery on my hand, he watched a lot too. ugh.
On the upside, I have found television to be a POWERFUL motivator. Ethan loves Batman, so I thought it might be a good motivator for potty training. I turned the TV off for about two weeks, then started trying him on the potty. I told him that if he pooped or peed in the toilet, he could watch a half hour of Batman. It has been VERY successful. He is doing a great job on the potty!

Hannah is addicted to Disney Movies. The funny thing is she will put one in and then wander away to play.I turn them off when she is not in the room and I swear she has esp because she will come flying in the room and flip out that I turned it off.It drives me nuts.

We disconnected the TV several years ago. We have a TV, DVD player, and VCR on a cart, but you have to roll out the cart and plug it in before you can watch a DVD or a tape so it takes some pre-planning. Joshua has his OWN portable DVD player, though, next to his playpen and it's almost always going with Love and Learning or Signing Times. Sometimes the older children wander over there and watch it with him, although I would THINK they'd soon get tired of those same two DVDs! If we could only be so successful "weaning" from the Internet! ;D (NOT gonna happen, if I have anything to say about it. )

Hmph...Boy am I jealous!! Andrew won't watch ANY TV for more then about 10 minutes or so. I used to think it was a waste of time to put in the Signing Time DVD's but believe it or not, he actually has picked up signs in that little amount of time . Believe me, I would LOVE for him to watch TV ....****sigh**** I can always dream....
He does however, LOVE music. I have music playing most of the day and if I don't he will growl at me until I put it on. He likes for me to sign the songs with him. Yeah.....can you see my laundry pile getting bigger and bigger as I'm sitting here??! LOL!

Well, prior to Russell's LOVE for Music.. it was ELMO ELMO ELMO!!! So.. he was a bit of an addict for a few years. Since around 2 yrs old we saw how he loved Elmo SOOO much... won't watch anything else.. and if you turned on something else... MAN.. he'd let ya know how PO'd he was you turned his beloved Elmo off... but... not he is into his boombox and music so he doesn't really watch TV at all anymore unless he gets a wild hair!

BIG old TV addict here, too! I'm gonna say he gets that from his dad, cause I could live perfectly fine without a TV! His biggies are Signing Times and Elmo. He can put them in the VCR or DVD himself and get them started. I do have to admit it comes in handy if I'm trying to get something done or want to get on here for a bit! Elmo's playing right now!
