I am sad to say that Emily is pretty much addicted to TV too. She watches just about anything on "Nick at Night"...........and her favorites are "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "The Cosby Show". I do think it got a bit better for her as she got older. She will turn the TV off and find something else to do like dancing in her room, reading, and working on math problems.........go figure! (Another one of her favorite things to do is to bring math sheets from school and sit down with a calculator and "work out" the problems) She will also gladly go outside and shoot hoops. We have to really encourage her to get outside and play!! I am pretty firm about NOT watching TV during any meals, and she tries almost daily to get me to give in on that.

Lia (7), is also an addict. She loves to watch the sprout channel on TV. (PBS). She likes a lot of Movies. Loves Monsters INc, Toy Story 1 and 2. Same with Shrek. Anything Muppet, Sharktale, Nemo. Also Sesame Street and Barney. She memorizes them and either acts them out of says the lines before the actors do. The funny part is when we lost power earlier this winter for 5 days, she was pretty good about it. Told me her tapes were broke the first day. Then colored by candlelight. Nancy

Lindsay is, without a doubt, a "media-addict"! We have over 500 movies (and still adding) and she has over 20 CDs (also, still adding). All she asks for at Christmas and birthday are for CDs and DVDs. She is happy to do other things like playing basketball, any board games, or pretty much anything else when prompted. She will turn off the tv when she wants to "play" with her doll, but she does love her routine of shows and movies!

Clarice would watch television all day if I let her, however, we have scheduled tv time. It helps her to know when the tv will be available, and when she's expected to be doing something else. For example, the tv is not allowed to be on before school. TV is on after homework and dinner. On weekends, a couple of hour of cartoons max in the morning and we try to limit it in the afternoon. One of the things we have always done is have "quiet hour" in the afternoon. She can play or read alone or with her sister, but they have to stay in one of their rooms. Once they get started, they often play for two or more hours. I think having a scheduled routine often helps.

I have a love hate relationship with the tube. Use to wish like Crazy Kaden would watch it now he will watch the wiggles and ONLY the wiggles. Jonathan can't stand the wiggles and Evan is obsessed with DUMBO. So we have a problem because only one kid can be satisfied at a time. OH we HAVE other TV's but getting ANY of them to watch the one outside of the living room is IMPOSSIBLE.
And Allissa my house is ALWAYS a mess. Kaden and Evan will usually use Jonathan's TV time to create mess like no mess you have ever seen today it was dish soap poured in the cats bowl and they shook their sippy cups out into it and made potions that they rubbed on the cabinets.

My kids love TV too...unfortunately I use it as a babysitter when I need to get things done but we try not to over-do it. I think we do, though. Both kids are constantly asking to watch something or another -- and with TIVO I keep all their favorites right on hand. Funnily enough their favorite thing to watch right now is "Deal or No Deal"....they actually pretend play this when they're NOT watching it. Picking numbers and calling the "banker". Meghan always offers me "forty-forty dollars" for my case and Matthew always offers me a million :-) wouldn't it be nice if he coud actually pay up, LOL! anyways...I think I've sort of gotten off track here! laurie

Adam is also a TV addict. I don't think he could survive without Barney. We do try to choose mostly educational shows for him, like Sesame Street, Dora, Wiggles and so on, but Barney is always th one that comes to his mind first. He dreams of Barney and evven sings parts of the songs in his sleep. ;D ;D ;D for real. Wemake sure even if we have to fight with him that he does do other things, like play outside and so on. But let me tell you that it can somtimes be a struggle to get him away from that TV. Now he is also geting a little obssessed with the computer. So that is go. I go on www.tvo.comthey have Barney games and stuff thee and he seems to enjoy it and it teaches him computer skills at the same time. Lots of real educational stuff too on the Dora the explorer site.
