This school year Joy has learned to sight read and speak the entire alphabet!
I am utterly amazed every time she does it. Last summer my goal was to get the kid started on letter recognition but we got nowhere. This school year she has had the most amazing preschool teacher and I'm telling you, the kid has learned!!
She sings the alphabet song, and even does the part at the end in her own special way, "Now I ABCs, sing a me, sing a me." Interestingly, she is really good with the tune and seems to be pretty close to on-key. This is explained by the fact that my husband and my other two kids are music prodigies (truly, not an exaggeration), so I guess she comes by that genetically. She also seems to have an inclination toward art, which comes from me. I love that I have another right-brained child!!
Anyway, I'm so excited about her progress, and I'm even beginning to see early reading. Last night we were reading a book together and she knew a few of the words. "See," "it," "we." Very basic, but she got them right 100% of the time. And it was a new book so I know it wasn't memorization.
I am so encouraged and believe she is going to be a good reader. This makes me so happy because I am a professional writer and I so hoped Joy would love reading/writing just as much as me. I know I'm jumping the gun, but I can't wait to introduce her to the Boxcar Children!!
Thanks for letting me gloat! ;D

;D BRAG AWAYYY!!!!! That is awesome... Man oh man she has progressed so much this year. CONGRATS!!!! I'll tell ya a hint. When Olivia was learning to read sentences what we did was use sight words phonics with the addition of the sign to learn the words in the sentence. In a day she could learn up to 2 short sentences. So using the 3 things in unison helped her progress soooo fast. Thought I'd share and maybe you'd like to share it with her teacher. JOY we are soo proud of you!!! HUGS steff
