Hi everyone,
Since I'm now an Unomas addict, I thought I should introduce myself and our family as well....
I'm Danielle and my dh is Andy. We live in Northern NJ in a town called Oradell. Our Zane was born just five months ago (how time flies!). He has a big brother, Jack, who is almost 3 years old. Zane is actually my third child, but we lost our first son about halfway through my pregnancy due to a rare and awful disorder.
Because of these complications, I was monitored throughout my pregnancy and I had an ultrasound every 3-4 weeks. So you can imagine our surprise shortly after Zane was born -- after hearing for months that this baby was healthy and looked wonderful -- that Zane had DS.
The initial shock was so hard. But honestly, even just a few months down this road, I feel so good about Zane and I just know he was meant to be mine.
Zane (a.k.a. Zaney Brainy - like the toy store) is amazing. He seems to be doing great right now. Smiling, reaching, rolling, everything in the mouth, grabbing his feeties, eating so well -- maybe TOO well cause he's about 19 pounds already!! -- and just such an incredible joy to be with. The smiles this kid gives us are sooo precious, so heartfelt.
I still struggle with all the unknowns about his future and abilities as he grows. But for the most part, we're just loving him for who he is.
One of the things we were most upset about when we found out about his ds is that Jack wouldn't have the sibling we envisioned for him. But a very wise social worker said to us, "You may have just given him the best friend he'll ever have." And so far, it seems to be true. Jack is too young to really understand things right now, but he's so loving and sweet to Zane.
So, thanks to tremendous support from friends, family and even you folks out there who don't even know us, we've come a heck of a long way in a very short time. I look forward to sharing more in the near future.
And I'll try to figure out how to post a pic!
Thanks for your interest in our family.
