At what ages did your little ones start speech therapy? Has everyone done speech thereapy? How many times a week/month and for how long each session? One-on-one or group? Just thinking ahead- Rosemary is only 15 months. Thanks. Yours in Christ, Kathy

Hi! Alex started speech therapy when he was born. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks & received Speech every day. They helped him with feeding issues, strengthening his mouth muscles, & did oral exercises. That continued when he was released from the hospital. Speech therapy isn't just speech. It is also about the mouth muscles & oral motor which our kiddos need in order to eat, drink, & speak properly. He received speech 1x a week until about a year ago & it was upped to 2x a week. He turns 3 next month. Hope this helps! Good luck. Sue

Kathy, Kourtney started speech therapy at about 6 months old. And to this day gets SP 3 times a week for 45 minutes at a time, plus her class has what they call circle time SP 2 times a week for 30 minutes.

Laura is just starting speech therapy at 6 months. Her first session is on 12/7. She will have it once a month to start and then go from there. It is one on one at our home. I think the session is 45 mins to an hour.

Russell could have gotten ST from birth... but... we would have had to go to a center-based program that offered a global program... PT, ST, OT together. I wanted in home services and I decided on PT twice a week instead. Our PT was WONDEFUL and worked on other things with us like OT and ST type things. I wouldn't have done it with anyone else, but I knew my PT prior to getting her, and was very lucky to have her. So I opted for just PT. Our PT did start a center a few months prior to Russell turing 3, so we followed her there and got OT and ST through that.
Does your daughter get OT at all? OT is good too for early pre speech skills. I think at 15 months, ST should be offered to your child and maybe OT.

Meghan started at one year....I recommend starting ASAP if possible...the sooner the better. ST doesn't only deal with speaking but w/ eating, pre-speech and other oral motor issues as well. Meghan (at 1yr) got 3 a week, one hour each...now, at almost 4, she gets 3 a week 1/2 hour, 2 private, one group. hope this helps...laurie

Aidan started speech when he was a month old. At this age, the ST worked on eating, feeding, tongue exercises to strengthen his tongue, etc. He got it 1 x a week at 30 minutes up until he started pre-school. In school now, he gets therapy 1 x a week, one on one, and group therapy 1 x a week, 30 minutes each.
