Hi, My name is Jessica and my little boy is now 8 months old. Until this time I wasn't ready to meet anyone else who have children with Ds. Finally after months of denial and thinking I could do this alone I have finally given in. I love Samuel more then anything but I have always held onto hope that the doctors were all wrong. I have posted a few times on this board but mostly I just read what you all write, it helps to know I am not the only one. I am hoping that someone that comes here is from the Colorado SPrings (COlorado) area and would be up to getting together or just talking on the phone. My little guy has done absolutely wonderful and every day he comes up with something new to impress me with. I swear he's a prodigy child. Thanks Jessica
update: Samuel's picture is number 91

Welcome Jessica and Samuel (As Mom to Ariel and Gabriel I LOVE those names that end in "el"!)!! We are SO not from Colorado, but wanted to welcome you aboard anyway I have to give you a lot of credit, I do not think that you are at all alone in not wanting to meet other children w/ DS and their families and thinking you could do it all alone. Some of us have also been there, and some of us have had little choice. But community is a very very good thing, and you have found a great one here!! I hope someone closer to you will respond.. and if you ever want to chat my email is obriend@bel-net.com and my yahoo id is rrbaby02 Not the same as having a real live person there, but you would be amazed at how well some of us make do!! To you and especially to Samuel: (((((((((HUGS)))))))))!!

Jessica, ditto what Debi says! I am in Virginia, but I lived in Englewood, Colorado for a few years when I was younger, does that count ? It seems like people who visit this website, are able to do so at all different times, some when they are still pregnant and just received the diagnosis of Ds. and some people much later, whenever they are ready. I lurked for many months before I was ready to post. I can't wait to hear all about Samuel and hopefully see some pictures!! Sincerely, Lynn

hi jessica,
sorry, i'm not from colorado either, but i still wanted to say hi. (i did live in boulder for 7 years and my brother still lives in denver, so i may come out to visit one of these days.)
i'm new to the board too. i can totally relate to your post. i have a 6 week old daughter, and we just found out a few weeks ago that she has ds. just last week, an envelope came in the mail from the genetics counselor and i thought it was going to say that they made a mistake and chloe's test results were negative. it is taking a while for the diagnosis to sink in, but i'm realizing that it is not as bad as i had first imagined. i was also a little reluctant to find a support group because i didn't want to focus on chloe's diagnosis since there is so much more to her than an extra chromosome. but i'm realizing that other parents of kids with ds feel the same way. there is a lot of information out there, and i think the best way to get it is from parents who are in the same situation.
email me if you want someone to talk to (jennabreeze@usisp.com), and in the meantime, enjoy samuel every day with every new thing he does.

Jessica,
Oops I am not from Colorado either but I wanted to welcome you to Unomas. The wonders of the computer age. It gives us a chance to be part of a community even if we are geographically challenged!
Please feel free to share your feelings and your stories with us! I would love to hear all about your precious Samuel.
I am Cathy, mom to Katie... known by many silly names... Katie just turned two, I found Uno Mas last year... and it has been a lifesaver for me! I love these women (and men). They have been so encouraging and so supportive!
Hugs to you and Samuel!
Cathy

Jackie,
That would be wonderful. I absolutely love Colorado and it is quite the change from northern MN where I am from. Unfortunately though we will only be here a few more years. We are a military family and this is only our first duty station. My husband is in the process of be deployed and could leave any day. Thanks Jessica

Hi Jessica and Samuel! Welcome....
I am yet another person who's not from Colorado but used to live there (Westminster)....just wanted to reiterate what Jackie said, Colorado Springs has some terrific programs and the PEAK Parent resource should be all you need to get you well on your way.
Hope to meet you sometime -- meanwhile, post often! Danielle

Hello Everyone,
It seems like just yesterday I was stumbleling across this site but a year has gone bye already. Samuel is going to be one on Monday (June 9th), he is the light of my life and the greatest person I know. He now weighs 18 pounds and is 27 1/2 inches long, not bad for a little 5 pounder who was only 17 inches at birth. He is the smilest happiest little guy I have ever seen. We are working on the crawling thing, he scoots a little but would rather roll to get something. He has past his hearing test and his heart was checked again. All his thyroid test have come back normal. He is such a miracle baby and I have no doubt in my head that GOD has a very special plan for this little guy. I want to thank you all for the support the last year, it has meant the world to me. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES! all my love, Jessica
