OK, I have a question!!! Imagine that!!!
For Collin's behaviors the school had a training session on how to handle a child with DS and put a behavior plan into effect. But, I had it written into his IEP that they would have someone (trained) come in and observe the teachers to kerteek (SP) them and make sure they were implementing the behavior plan and discipling him correctly. They have never had anyone request this. They won't let a someone teach w/o having gone to college and student teach how can they expect these teachers to effectively discipline a child without someone telling them if they are doing it right or not?
Since they have put this into effect Collin's morning have gotten a lot better with only one or two major episodes in the last week but, the afternoon class is a mess!!!
This teacher can not/does not relate to Collin. It seems she refuses to change her approach to him. For example, (right or wrong) Collin likes to hide in cubbies. He will hide and yell out "I hide from you" I have told her several times when he does this his other teacher just tells him "I found you", reaches out her hand, he takes it and goes to his seat. But, this teacher refuses to do this and chooses to make a power struggle out of it!!
She has been heard over telling someone that "If, he not going to be expected to do the same work as the other children...he shouldn't be here" Now if she was older 50's or 60's I would under stand this...but she's not. She's maybe in her late 20's.
Now I have Digressed...I would love to have THE NANNY put camera's up in her room then go in and tell her what she is doing wrong and help her correct the problem.
Do you think she would do this?
