Many prayers for your sweet little guy. He certainly is a beautiful child though!!
On another site, a little girl right around Aidan's age had a rash just like this. But I believe they concluded it was a reaction to a combo vaccine she got....but she looked alot like your Aidan. PM me and I can hook you up with that mom if you want to share your experiences. Both kids are right around the same age. She was born 10/2005 which makes her around 16 months.

Doesn't have the right appearance for Fifth's disease.
My first thought was an allergic reaction. Sometimes, allergic reactions to medications can occur as long as 2 weeks after the medication has been stopped. Laura had an allergic reaction to Sulfa, her symptoms occurred about 5 days after taking her last dose, and lasted almost a week, getting slightly better every day.
I do love his eyes, they are beautiful!
Hope he feels better. Sharon

I really was looking forward to getting to see Aiden and that horrible rash doesnt even take away from how gorgeous he is so I bet he is going to be one handsome hunk and yes, those baby blues of his are simply beautiful Laura!!!! You two really do make beautiful babies Hugs to poor little Aiden, I hope the itching stops soon, have you tried aveeno baths or oatmeal baths for the little tiger? I'd be a grumbling grouchy bear with that all over me. I cant wait to hear what the dr says today! hugs, Robin

Doc is sticking with his original diagnosis - viral exanthema. Says it is not a drug reaction, and enumerated the reasons why. The rash isn't bugging him, he's not itching (I probably gave the impression that he was cuz I started giving him Benadryl), it blanches when you push down on it, etc. etc. etc. He said Aidan's extremely fair skin means that EVERYTHING shows up on him far more than the average kid. Thank those Danish genes of mine for that. Since BOTH docs are in agreement, they must be right. His face was actually looking better when we got to the doctor's office, so I took my camera and showed them the pictures. The nurse who'd been so snippy with me nearly had a stroke when she saw the pictures, and said she could see why I'd been so concerned. According to the doc, it should start to clear up in a couple of days. He said there are about 120 viruses that cause rashes, and that only about six are easily diagnosed because of the characteristic rash patterns - the ones we've all heard of like measles, rubella, roseola, fifth disease, hand foot and mouth disease, and I forget the sixth one. So Aidan has one of the other ones, LOL! Aidan hasn't had any vaccines for the last couple of months - we aren't on the same schedule as the rest of the world cuz my DH had some vaccine issues - so I'm careful with the kids. Thanks for all the help - you guys are, as always, the BESTEST!!!!! Aidan is so lucky to have his brother Ethan, or I'd never have known all of you!!! Just had to post a picture of him looking normal though....!

Hi,
Don't post very much because I am at work during the day, but had to chime in a little. Jacob who is 4 now, had that same looking rash. It was a viral infection. I know exactly what your'e going through, I did all those things too. I even went into the ER to get ALL the docs to look at him. lol. They gave him nothing and within a week, it cleared. No itching, scarring or anything.
I hope it's the same for your little guy.
Good luck and God Bless.
Beautifu kids.
Gloria

laura, I was just going to post that it looked like a viral rash to me....but I'm glad to see the doc's think its that too. I agree that he probably looks more pronounced due to his fair features. Hopefully it will be gone in few more days.... p.s. what a beautiful family you have .....gorgeous, gorgeous kids...rashes and all!

Does he have anything in his mouth? Lauren had Kawasaki Disease when she was around that age.
My other peanut had a rash that was viral but it was more hives than bumps.
You do have beautiful children!!

My girls are both allergic to amoxicillin and had rashes that looked like that all over their bodies near the end of the 10 days the medicine was given. But, neither had fevers with the rash. Good luck! Donnita

Dawn, I have just enough medical knowledge to be dangerous. So, my unprofessional medical oppinion is this child has the Measles!!!! I know Collin had a rash like this an both the school nurse and I thought he had measles but the doctor said NO....I to this day think he was wrong!!! Colln had not been vaccinated at that time either. My nephew also got the Measles from his MMR shot...looked just like that!!
Good Luck!!! Connie

Connie, The more I look at his little face, the more I think you could be right....measle rash! altho very rare, it could happen. I thought viral, but not so sure now. Dawn, you have a medical mystery on your hands! Hope the little guy is feeling better. just a thought, can your doc run a serology titer to see if it is measles?

If it wasn't looking better by today, I was going to request the serology titer based on the fact that he hasn't had the MMR. BUT, he's looking (and behaving) much better today, thank the Lord!!! Doc pointed out that measles don't blanch when you push on them, and they actually turn kind of brown after a few days. We are on the 4th day today, and rather than turning brown, they are fading away on his face. I expect the other spots will be slower to go away since they appeared later. He's even getting his appetite back today (gotta feed those chubby cheeks! LOL!)
I was pretty convinced it was measles for a couple of days too, so Connie, I'm with you, a little knowledge can be dangerous. I'm glad it wasn't, cuz we don't need any other issues around here, thank you very much!!!
And thanks, you guys, for all the compliments on my children. I think they're kind of cute too. Miss Victoria is already breaking hearts - but she doesn't even notice the poor lovesick boys yet! Thank heavens her daddy is a police officer - I think we're going to be beating them off with a stick when she gets older (unless they get a hint of her ATTITUDE!!! LOL!)
