just wanted to update a little bit....
first - I haven't spoken the the principal yet....things have been hectic here (DH upcoming knee surgery, house hunting, house selling and one or another kid home sick for 10 days!)
however...Meghan is doing *better* with the PT...not 100% but better..we have modified our technique some and have seen better results.
Since MM has been sick with 102 fever for several days....I am pretty pleased...but we'll see what happens when she gets back to school.
Monday morning I got a call from the woman who is the Educational Coordinator at Meghans old PRESCHOOL (ACDS)...she did a program for the entire staff at Meghan's primary school last week on children w/ DS.
They also spoke to her about the pottying issues...this woman really knows her stuff - having worked solely w/ kids w/ DS for many many years.
She told them that having me come to school to change MM would be the worst thing - because if MM needed a break, or some comfort...well, she'd quickly get the idea that all she'd have to do was have an accident...and mommy would come running.
then Jane talked to Meghan's old preschool teacher to get an idea of what worked for Meghan last year and relayed that to the school.
The school was concerned - they *said* they don't want me getting upset or frustrated....and promised to open up lines of communication more...
we shall see....
I will still be asking for a meeting to modify Meghan's IEP...I have to say...since Meghan was fully PT'd when she arrived at kindy in the beginning of the year -- I didnt give any thought to this...and since her accidents are always sporadic - she'll go 3 or 4 weeks of staying perfectly clean & dry, and then have several days of accidents....this is why it wasn't on the IEP.
I feel dopey for not having it on there - but it really wasnt an issue until recently I guess....
anyways - thank you all....I appreciate everyone's opinion and support on this issue. It made me feel alot less alone.
hugs, laurie
