I am going to try to make this trip this year. My family has never been camping. We can stay at a cabin that has all the modern fixtures. A hotel is great also. I did the direction for Santa Claus, Ind. The driving distance is pretty long from New York City it is about 13 hours. It would be great if the driving distance would not be so long. If this is the place you guys decide to go it would be ok by me . It would be the first time we go diving for such a distance.

Susan,
I'm with you, I'm a self-described hotel snob. When Brian told me he had a Super 8 members club card I almost died! You mean, I'm marrying a man who holds a Super 8 card?! I'm more of a Hilton girl myself. I told him he could officially throw it away as we are NEVER staying in a Super 8 if I can at all help it - LOL.
HOWEVER, with that being said and because I believe that marriage is full of compromises, we did buy a fifth wheel camper last spring so we could camp. No way was I starting off with a pop-up camper - we had to have the whole she-bang. It's lovingly referred to by my family as "Jessie's apartment on wheels".
So, if we all end up at a campground, you can hang out with me in my air conditioned trailer! hee hee hee I'm sure being huge and pregnant, that's pretty much where I will be.
Anyway, in regards to cabins at campgrounds. While they can be a great alternative if you don't want to tent camp, just keep in mind you have to bring a lot with you - all of your bedding, etc., etc. Most campgrounds that have a website will list what you will need. They are basically empty rooms with bunks or something similar and may or may not have indoor plumbing - you may still have to use the community restrooms/showers.
So . . . are we definitely thinking Cincinnati? If so, is there a preferred campground that you have all stayed at? We should probably start making reservations. When I had looked into the Jellystone campground in Indiana a couple of months ago they were already starting to book for Labor Day weekend.
And, one last thing, CC - you didn't say if your family was going to make the drive to see all of us!

I'm loving the Cincy idea, but I'm guessing that if Robin EVER comes back to post, she is going to really want us to go farther north.
I've TENT camped only once in my adult life (I vaguely remember camping as a kid though), and it was HORRIBLE!! Last November with my sweet little Cub Scout son.........he was SO good to me.....pitched the tent, tried to make sure I was comfy, took care of EVERYTHING. Well, everything except for the fact that I couldn't sleep a WINK!! From the cold to NOT being in my bed to my full bladder.....I was miserable all night!
Now Jessie, if we had an air-conditioned 5th wheel, I'd just LOVE that!!
How about if we compromise......we stay at the Holiday Inn (with an INDOOR pool and outdoor one too).......and all the campers can camp out in the parking lot and then they can swim with us!! No? Ok.....we've still got time to plan this. No matter where we stay, it's always a FUN get together!!!
