Christine...... I was so excited to get all the info from you and wow girl did it all hit home with Chase! I read and read and kept saying WHY to myself, why when I begged for PT for him did they keep saying he didnt need it? And now, why do I think so much of his oxygen levels have to do with this? I am going to finish reading all of this and then read it again and highlight it and take it into our dr and share it with him and then get lots of imput from you if you would be so kind. Do you think I can learn more at the NDSC? Why is it Chase is going to be 15 and we are just now learning this. I remember when he was born how thankful we were that he was born when he was born because they were learning so many new things at the time but sadly they have learned so many new things not in time for him, but I am happy for others. I cant even imagine how much more knowledge there will be in another fifteen years. Okay let me lighten the mood a bit.....LOL Christine...why do we call you CBean??? I got the C but I have no clue about the bean as I thought that was your last name and so imagine my surprise when I got the mail and it was not from Mrs Bean...LOL am I a dork or what? ;D ;D ;D ;D Hugs and thank you so much for your help Robin

Oh Robin!!! You are too much!!! Keep in mind that the workshop info I just sent you is VERY recent and it shows how they are still coming up with ways to help - even Chase's age. You know, in some ways even though it is taking us forever to develop here, I feel we are lucky b/c Em's getting there the right way. Painfully slow, but correct. I feel that Chase has been overlooked as you do, but it's not too late to to try this approach. I don't know about NDSC, but I'm sure it would be a benefit and I know there's a bunch of Unomasers that would love to see you there, but just keep pushing and feel free to ask me questions as I usually see Em's PT 2x/week and she's a real gem!!! She's been doing this for over 25 years now and keeps reinventing herself. We are soooo lucky to have her!!! Oh, and bean rhymes with ine. Really impressive, right??? LOL! Think back to who and what I was when I first signed on!

Christine>>>>> LOLOLOLOL to who and what you were when you first came here 1. newly pregnant 2. awesome 3. nervous 4. scared 5. so d**n brave 6. someone we all instantly loved 7. full of great questions to prepare you as much as humanly possible for the birth of your princess Emily .... but I got the bean part now. And never fear....I do believe it isnt going to be too late to help Chase with at least some increase in his tone right from the core. People start working on building tone in their bodies without DS every day of their lives so I believe my great Chaseman can do the same with lots of work. Can we find a way to duplicate your PT and send her here? CC....I dont think Chris has the problem with tone Chase has. It effects everything from his eating to his breathing, walking standing, etc and Christine is helping me with it by sending me info to use to work with Chase to improve/ increase, believeing I need to start from his very core to improve it, she can explain far better than I:) hugs, Robin

Hey Christie and Pat: The info I sent to Robin was from a seminar Emily's PT attended recently. It was actually geared towards older children and adolescents and Em's PT is scaling it down to Em's level and for others in EI. It's kind of interesting b/c it really comes down to simple strength training ie Em's core - she's still weak in the trunk. (Not b/c of any junk, lol!) From Robin's recent experiences with Chase, I suggested she consider getting back to basics...especially since 40 + y/o's pick up and start from scratch like this, why not our teens that all of a sudden seem to have low muscle tone issues that didn't present a problem in the past. I don't think you guys have these issues, but feel free to pm or email or call if you would like to hear more! I really like the idea of it b/c I feel you're never too young for abs of steel. Still hoping for mine after I evict #3!

Cbean,
This sounds like the exercises that Ethan's OT has had us doing since last summer. When we traveled to Connecticut to see Lori Overland, we worked jointly with a fantastic OT named Rae Suba. Her evaluation of Ethan led to a lot of work on his "core" muscles, which support good breathing, speech, and are, for want of a better word, the "balance point" of your body.
We have been working both on the core abdominal and trunk muscles as well as building his diaphraghm and lung capacity. It has been interesting, and I think is part of the reason we are seeing longer utterances from him. He is building the breath to support it!

Hey Ladies...just to put in $0.02 here. That's one of the benefits of equestrian therapy. It's supposed to help teach them to work the trunk muscles & support . I can't say enough good stuff about it.
