Well, Erin has been home with me for a week while she was waiting for her placement at her new school ( my choice....I didn't want to send her to old place anymore....once I made the decision to leave, I just didn't need to be back at all !) Today was supposed to be her first day at school....but she must have caught Russell's croup.... .....because we were up at 1 Am til about 3 AM hanging out in the steamy bathroom !! She had a fever and was miserable ! So onto my post...... Today I am working and I hear the sound of a kitchen chair flipping over .....she hasn't done that in MONTHS.....so I was NOT happy to hear it..... When I went up, she was completely naked which means she has to go to the bathroom.....so I scolded her for tipping chair....but she had already picked it up by the time I got to her ( that in itself is a good thing !) And when I took her to the bathroom....there was poops in the toilet ! She went on her own...usually she "waits" for me.....or leaves it on the floor for some reason So I was thrilled that she successfully did potty ( even the water was left turned on & running) so I know she washed her hands, too !! LOL So while I tried to be angry about the chair, I was thrilled about the toileting !! LOL Let's hope she is better for school tomorrow !! LOL But I also have to add....this week having her at home has been VERY NICE !!! She is on great behavior for the most part, pottying is going VERY well.....I'm glad I didn't send her back to her old place.

oh, this is definetly a GOOD thing! Going in the potty is MAJOR! I'd take the "tipped chair" with a grain of salt, and run with the potty training. Hope Erin's new school works out for you all...keep us posted.

Erin....WTG!!! Independence is a good thing...she's starting to mature!! Mom...I'm going to play devil's advocate here (LOL...I love that position!!!) You said she had not flipped the chair over in months...since you did not actually witness the flipping of the chair could she have done it on accident? And with her past history you just assumed she was up to her old tricks?!!?!? After all you said she was sick last night...she was obviously just very tired and stumbled into the chair and it fell over on its own!!! I like that version much better!!! Hope she's feeling better and gets to start her new school tomorrow!~!! PS....Collin used to strip from the waist down to go to the bathroom but hasn't done that in the past 2 years....thank goodness!! It's somewhere on that 21st chromosome!!!! Hugs, Connie

WTG Erin!
She had already picked the chair up by the time you got to her, in the past did she pick the chair up on her own also?
I'd focus on the positive. If the chair flipping happens again, then it's more than an accident.
Let us know how she does at school tomorrow. (positvie thoughts sent your way for a healthy girl!)

Connie you crack me up.... Chair was defintiely not accident....she had already broken all my old kitchen chairs and I am now using my HEAVY dining room chairs....there was no bumping into that solid piece and have it accentilly fall ! LOL I think she was actually doing it to get my attention and get me to come up to assist with getting her dressed after her pottying....she knows I come running when a chair is tipped.... Who is running the show around here ? THe picking up of the chair is a good thing...because she recognizes that she misbehaved and is trying to correct it.... Yes, i was thrilled with the pottying and the sink being left on. She really has taken a step toward independence....just haven't completed the process yet ~

WTG Erin!!! I'm wondering if she was so proud of herself for pooping in the potty and knew that a quick way to get Mom to come and take notice was to tip a kitchen chair??? And, LOL it got you moving! I hope she gets well and has a wonderful first day at her new school. Susan

Allisa,
That is so awesome!!! You know that old saying, two steps forward, one step back. Sounds like Erin went ten steps forward, and one little tiny step bacward with the chair thing. I'd be sending out invitations and having a party!!! Way to go Erin!

I've always said that mastering potty training is a HUGE developmental leap for a kid with Down syndrome. It means they have made the connection that they are responsible for their actions.
Tipping the chair was a mistake. The fact that she uprighted the chair means she knows she made a mistake and tried to right it.
BTW, my son stripped naked to poop for some time after being potty trained.

Molly is 7 also! We need to stay in closer contact! Potty with her is a control issue...she stays dry all day....is doing better at school, but will NOT go by herself, and if i take her?? it's a fight!
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr stubborn
we don't want to get into poopy....she does not like to do it SO much, that she holds...till it's the size of a baseball, or worse...and then we 'deliver' amidst all the hysterics that go with natural delivery!
we are slipping mineral oil into her yogurt, but that doesnt seem to help, so there is a new bottle of miralax on the counter. UGH UGH UGH!
congrats on the good behavior! Molly is always polite and good, unless she's angry about something, and then you just see the devistation....never hear the storm. Her teachers are also learning of this phenomena.
Patience is a virtue...patience is a virtue...patience is a virtue (my mantra)

That chair said " mom I went to the bathroom and washed my hands"......LOL Allisa, didnt you hear it talking to you? ;D ;D ;D What an angel and then to stand it back up? What a good girl she is! Self correction...now if half the adults I know could only learn to do that! HUGE hugs to you and Erin....I cant wait to hear about the new school! Robin
