Hey everyone... I've posted before about Ryan and issues with shoe laces and small holes (if there is a pin hole in any clothing - he will work it until it has become the Grand Canyon of holes - you should have seen him last week... masking tape on his sweats to hold them together from the gaping hole he had made ). I've noticed the teachers writing notes home like "he obsessed about... " more and more often. At his last check up, the pediatrician mentioned he might have a mild case of OCD. I never thought about that - just assumed he had stimulation or behavior issues. So, those of you who have experience in this area - can you shed some light on the subject for me? Does you child have OCD? What do you do for him/her? Medications? Side effects? Strategies? How was it diagnosed? I can research the medical stuff - but I want to hear from parents!! Thanks!!

"Does you child have OCD?" Jodi ~ Chris has been DX with OCD. I always thought he was a bit OC when he was younger but as he got older it only got worse A Ped Behaviorist is the one that DX Chris. We tried for a very long time just doing behavior management but his OCD truly got in his way of learning and just in the way of his life if you kWIM. So we did finally go the med route and although it has not been easy at times finding just the right med and the right amount. But when they work OMG what a big big difference it makes for my guy Right now we are trying a new med and just had to up the amount and both the Doc and I are not sure this is the right med but thankfully she works very very closely with us. The last med he was on for his OCD worked like a charm but just recently it stopped working so we are trying something new. I have heard over and over by many that if its true OCD, behavior management will not work alone it takes both the behavior management and the meds. BEST of Luck to you and if you want to talk more bout it just let me know CC ~

Angela too. When she was little, it was mirrors which soon became anything remotely reflective that she could possibly see herself in. Holes in clothes? Forget it, they're instantly trashed. Last year for Christmas her grandma gave her this gorgeous knit sweater. The first time she wore it, she disappeared into her room and came back out with it in shreds!!!! Thank GOD my mother in law wasn't here! She has other stuff too...like the buttons in the car because she has lots of "checking" behaviors that are common with OCD. I have to keep the child safety lock on because she will check the door handles to see if they still work. Dean and I have made up a code word for unlocking the automatic windows, otherwise the child lock is on and she watches for me to unlock it.

I have noticed some things like this in myself but it does not includes holes in my clothes. I tend to eat or drink too much of what I like and can't stop myself. I thought it was my medicine that I take. I take an anti-depressant so I thought this may have something to do with it. Sometimes anti-depressants can give you hunger for sweets for instance. I guess it is different for everyone who has it. The main thing with me is order. I can't stand for my CD's to be out of order or not in the catergory I want it in. You don't want to get me started on cleaning. I am a neat freak. I do not like messiness or clutter.
