Hi guys, In Auckland we have just started the Buddy Walk program and it's been going for 2 years now. The first year was amazing with heaps of TV coverage and a good turnout as a result. This last one however was a bit of a fizzler. I've put my hand up to help organise the next event in October/November (I know it's cold for you guys but getting into summer for us ) Can anyone offer me some good tips as we start the organising process in February? So far I'm drawing on everyone I know to help with advice. It seems it's all too important to walk and talk and I think I can wrangle some radio time and possibly some TV time. Our family has helped out with a few documentaries about disability in NZ so hopefully I can draw on some favours or 3. Any advice or peoples experiences would be gratefully received. I know you guys have been having successful buddy walks for many years and would appreciate your input. Love ya's Carolyn

Well, I'm no help. Our local group talked about doing one, think they tried once and it was big flop. We just go to other BW's, finally went to the big NYC BW this year. But there may be some resources that you could mine at www.buddywalk.org/If you haven't already, might want to check out items under Fundraising and Advocacy Hall of Fame Fundraising Tips Small Steps,Giant Strides Advocacy Tips Take Action! Organize A Walk Register Your Walk Organizer FAQ’s Message Boards Buddy Walk Materials I believe the message boards are for the organizers of particular walks. Would think your walk would not be connected to NDSS, but maybe you could hook up with people who've BTDT and they could give you ideas, pointers, tips. Good luck, Bob
