Ryan LOVES to play video games. He mainly plays x-box games... favorites are: Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Shrek 2, Incredibles, Wallace and Gromit, among others. He really gets how to do it all too. He will ask dad for help, and 9 times out of 10, dad can't do the trick. He actually did finish all levels of Shrek 2 with only needing help a couple of times. That is HUGE to me!! ;D He likes to play the Wii and he has a Nintendo ds that he plays games on as well. The only thing I think he does that most kids don't is STIM sometimes LOL - he will repeatedly make characters jump off cliffs or something like that and he "gets stuck" in this activity until we tell him to move on! Other times he will make the characters run into stuff and laugh out loud over and over - his laugh is infectious - we start laughing too. I know we like to discourage playing video games with our typical kids. I have to say that this is an area where Ryan is pretty typical too. He has an attitude if he can't play, we use it as a threat when necessary, and he is able to do it so well. I am amazed at how he knows how to use the controller and figure out the puzzles to move on in the games. Do any of your kids play video games too? Just curious. Jodi

Hi Jodi,
Reading that all I could think of was geez, that's Jason! His cousins are amazed at the levels he gets to on video games. Trust me, the boy gets no help either - we have never showed him once how to play a game or how to operate the controls, etc.
I think the combination of being visual people as well as problem solvers makes them pretty awesome video gamers. I was talking to a guy on my flight home a couple of weeks ago and telling him about Jason. He asked if we ever thought about getting him into video game testing for companies. He used to do that and said it was a great job - and just maybe something Jason could do when he is older. So . . . yes, we have to limit his time just like you do with Ryan, but there could be a silver lining to all of this video gaming!!!

Yep.... Lewis is another "gamer"... No one taght or showed him how to use the controllers or anything either, he just picked it up when he was about 3 and worked it all out himself. Until recently we stuck to the Old Nintendo 64 with cartridges which are hard to kill, but then he discovered Dad's X-Box... And unfortunately his favourite games on that are all the "big people" games...Halo is not too bad though. We also recently dug out the Old Playstation (original) and he likes some of the games on that one too (Spyro, Tony Hawk, Colin Mcrae). We got a Wii a few weeks ago, and he loves that too...took him a few goes to get the hang of the remote but now he has it down pat. He likes the Cow/Scarecrow race and the Fishing game on WiiPlay, and is pretty good at Baseball on WiiSports.
