Okay... another question.
Does your child independently use the bathtub or shower? Or semi independent? Just curious if yes to either, how old and to what extent?
Ryan has always taken baths. We start the water, and he sometimes makes adjustments. It's strange but he loves cccccold water!! He pours cups of water over his head to get his hair ready to wash. Then I hand him a towel so he can dry his face. He will put the shampoo in his hand, wash his hair, and rinse with a cup. Again I help him with a towel to dry his face.
I really think he is ready to try the shower now. And I think over all it is easier than a bath for him to be independent.

Jodi Lauren will not get in the water if it is hot or warm. It is almost freezing. Her sister will not take a bath with her because it is too cold. She is semi independent. She can't wash her hair well enough yet but we put her in the shower and direct her what to wash. Then we will wash her hair and she will rinse. She is 9. We could never leave her alone though. The bathroom would be under water.

Laura also likes the water cooler, not cold, but definitely lukewarm.
I can't remember when she became independent at bathing. She loves showers, sometimes I have to stick my head in the bathroom and remind her to end the shower. She will be standing there just letting the water run over. I love that feeling also.
We would take Laura in the shower when she was able to sit up, so starting when she was a baby. She always has liked them.

Jodi, It's always been that since Jelani has low muscle tone I started bathing him when he was younger in a separate large plastic tub I place in the bathtub itself...it always gave him that security from slipping because of the sides he could lean on...now that he's older, I bought a larger tub and it still fits in the bathtub, lol like his own swimming pool. The water temperature makes no difference to him. I make his bath with bubbles and he tosses his own plastic bath toys inside and he has different size cups and containers to fill up and dump, to help with his motor skills and get clean at the same time! But he won't always let me wash him with a washrag, he prefers using the cloth himself to clean, lol but I always have to show him how and end up doing it myself...then after his bath I stand him up and run the shower to rinse off the soap...he loves the shower, but is still unsteady standing alone, so I always have that one arm holding him.

Jason is the opposite - he has that water so stinking hot!!
He started taking showers independently at probably 11, I think. It wasn't long after him and Brian moved in with me. I vividly remember him having an 'accident' in the bath - I'm like, HELL NO, you are too old mister - time for a shower!!! LOL
He's completely independent with everything that goes on in there!

Hannah is nine ans still takes a bath a lot but we are starting to move toward showers. She takes a shower after aquatic therapy and she is kind of funny as she orders me out because she wants to do it all herself. That would be fine but she is not good at getting all the shampoo out by herself. I hover outside the curtain and poke my head in and she yells at me that "I can do it!" It's a work in progress.

In the past few weeks we have introduced Katie to showering and she seems to like it. We don't give her much independence with it yet...she's only 6. We set the temp to her liking and I help her pour out some shampoo and give her a chance to wash her own hair, then I will just go over it and make sure she didn't miss a spot....same with rinsing. I also bought a bath mirror to hang in the shower so she could see what she's doing and that really seems to help her.
Also she definitely does much better washing with a "puff" versus a washcloth. We leave the curtain open a bit so she can see me standing in the bathroom and I take a dry "puff" and show her where to clean (also great for teaching all the body parts!) and she mimics me with her puff inside the shower. I imagine that she'll be able to do it with minimal intervention soon.

Well...if I left Damara to her own devises we would be in BIG trouble. Not only would our bath room be flooded, but she would be just as dirty as when she got into the tub. She HATES to wash her body AND her hair is a fight EVERY time! I truely dread hair nights, I keep saying to myself "she will grow out of this", but I am not really convinced!
